Help new kitchen units don't look right

Hi I changed my kitchen units from a white gloss to what should have been light grey almost white
The room looks dull and don't like the feel
The kitchen looks more of a blue green colour
I am thinking of painting what would work with rest of kitchen please
Any suggestions on farrow and ball?
Also do the handles look ok.
As always advice much appreciated

Hi,

I agree with the post above the lighting could be an issue, is the problem as prevalent during day light?

You asked about changing the handles, but you will need top get handles that have the same spacing between the holes.

you have a blind that has nice yellow in it. Why don't you paint the back wall in that yellow for a pop of colour? Farrow and Ball Daydream Yellow or Citron would be lovely

Hi,

You have a very cute small kitchen. Is the colour supposed to be dove grey? if so it does look similar to it, I think the lighting in the kitchen makes the colour look different, maybe add more lighting? for example under the top wall units. You could also change the colour of the ceiling lights to cool white instead of warm white.

If you are thinking of changing the colour of your kitchen units, then maybe change it to sand grey or stone grey - both are light shades of grey but sand grey has a warm undertone and stone grey has a cool undertone. Grey shades are very popular for kitchens including polar white.

I think that you need to leave a wider gap, 30cm is not wide and I think it will look like what it is, ie stopping the units so they don't get in the way of the french doors. I would go with a 60-80cm gap and make a useful feature out of it with floor to ceiling shelving. I've found a picture showing some shelving stepped back from regular depth units, so you get an idea. Another option is to use a rounded base unit if you like them and maybe put a stool or plant in the gap.

You will need a few tester pots to get it right. If you paint it a blue grey it may look chilly, especially with cool LEDs. My kitchen floor is similar to yours and North facing. I tried lots of different greys but ended up with Skimming stone as it has a tinge of warmth but a definite violet undertone. I went well with the deep olive I also chose. Pavilion grey and Cornforth white have a cool blue undertone but they may look cold - best to try a few out in both natural and artificial light. This shows skimming stone (and olive green) and my floor tiles look very similar to yours. to yours.

I want to change general look of my kitchen from dark brown to white or crystal white, but I don't know what option should I choose: 1. buy whole new furnitures what I like or 2. buy a clingfilm and cover old ones? I am wondering option number 2, because I am not sure if furnitures will be look also good in real, I only saw photos "before/after" for instance: Have any of You already done this before? If only You have some experience with clingfilm please tell me would you recommend it? Or is it better to invest more money in a new furnitures?

Thank you all for your comments. Very much appreciated. My wife is ruling out wood because she doesn't like the look of wood in kitchens and because we have solid wood flooring in the rest of the downstairs area and she thinks it will clash. Picture below of where out kitchen meets the hallway. Also we bought some more of those tiles yesterday to get more of a feel of what it'll look like. It does look pretty good but it does worry us about what type of table and appliance colours we will be able to get and really making it all look a bit drab perhaps? We are leaning towards sticking with relaying the same times the house already has as we have been unable to find any better looking light grey tiles. We do really like them.

Hi thank you yes it is the same during daylight. would that colour you mention clash with the rest of the kitchen

Hi. It's a lovely kitchen with lots of character. Have you tried living with it for a while? If you were to paint it, I think I'd look at elephants breath or oxford stone. I would however get a couple of sample pots to enable you to stick up painted card on the whole of that back wall to see if you like it given the cost involved. I do like the handles, just wonder if cup handles and Victorian knobs would better suit the free standing furniture.

In my personal opinion, the issue is that you have some lovely traditional freestanding pieces and the modern cabinets just don't go with them. I'd either look to paint them all the same colour or go for something that's more of a contrast. If you can't afford to change the cabinet doors to a more traditional style, then maybe just change the handles to something that's more in tune with the freestanding stuff? If you paint the cabinets, try Everlong paint, it'll go over anything without sanding or priming. My final piece of advice would be to introduce a pop of colour. Choose one colour and get some inexpensive accessories like canisters, towels, bowls etc. A warm yellow really pops against pale grey and would brighten the space.

I agree with Carina above , the grey cabinets and handles don't mix well with the rest of the furniture which feels country and traditional.

I also agree the issue is the cabinets are too modern for the rest of the style in the room. If you were up for some diy you could make them look more traditional by using mdf panels or trim and then painting over and adding chunkier handles. Also agree that lighting above and beneath the wall cabinets will really add warmth to the room.

I think it's ok maybe you could change the handles I would take away the rug and just move things round a bit it's homely
