Need help to hang TV
Comments (4)I would sit in each chair and see what placement height allowed me to see over any obstructions, and add about 6 " (distraction zone). Also see what level is comfortable to hold your head. Some people put tv too high in public places. Your neck may hurt if you have to look up during a whole movie. In bedroom higher is better. You are usually in bed watching there. From a woman who likes her movies. lol...See MoreTv placement in small alcove unit
Comments (4)I think a shelf would tie in nicely with the shelves you already have in the alcove, but a tv cabinet isn’t such a terrible thing. You can get some lovely wooden tv units, painted or natural, which will look fine. However a shelf would be far cheaper! Just one bit of advice, don’t get a glass one as it really shows up the dust, even an hour after dusting it, it will need dusting again. Wood is much more forgiving. Here’s a few ideas. 7...See MoreHelp on where to put tv and position sofas in new extension please!
Comments (8)Thank you so much for taking the time to do these detailed plans. You have certainly come up with some ideas that we had not thought about. In particular we wouldn't have thought about having a small sofa against that wall (we had thought the tv would be good here) but actually I think it feels nice to be facing the other way. I also like the piano and the bookcase being at the entrance and feels this would help separate the kitchen from the family room area and also be that I can hear my daughter play whilst I cook and pop round the corner to see her. We have only just created that large opening for the window as wanted as much sun in as possible (and in fact have just had it amended to make it larger so it didn't look so obviously like a garage conversion to us) - so I wouldn't be keen on the second idea of reducing the window size for the piano - but yes you are absolutely correct and we should have thought about furniture placement more than we did as the 15cm of wall to the left of the window has prevented me from running a nice long floor to ceiling bookcase along that wall which is disappointing - but still other areas to put it in. Luckily I can carry out your furniture arrangement as I placed 3 tv points so will see how it feels when we finally get finished. Thank you so much for these plans and the effort to achieve them!...See MoreHelp with furniture placement in living room
Comments (2)My parents living room has a very similar dimension and layout as yours. The questions I’ve are if the double door area has high traffic? Do you watch a lot of TV? My parents place layout is two three seater sofa facing each other in front of the fireplace with a TV console on the wall opposite, and bookshelves on both sides of the fireplace. My father watches a lot of TV in the evening whilst my mum doesn’t and she uses the space during the day to read and receive friends. The sofas facing each other creates a more formal space for conversation. For your space, I personally won’t have two sofas but one sofa with two armchairs, maybe mid century style on the side to the conservatory. For the conservatory, I could see both rectangular, square or circular dining table work. It depends on your lifestyle again. For example if you regularly have a lot of people for dinner, then a circular might be better. Whilst if normally, you only have less than 4, I might go for rectangular or square. As it allows portion of the table to have a vignette of magazines, candles and vases / plants. I’ve a 6 people dining table and mostly just two of us. So we use it for coffee, reading, more plants and books on one end. If you’d like to spend a lot of time in the conservatory, I’d incline to add seatings like 1 or 2 armchairs, a little sideboard or table to put a lamp to give different lighting level. Again very much depend on what your lifestyle is....See MoreHelen M
