Help with planning space for kitchen / diner / living extension
Comments (16)I think that what you want is achievable with very careful planning. A separate utility room is an absolute godsend and you won't regret it. I would definitely use sliding or folding doors as someone else suggested, otherwise you won't fit washing baskets etc. in there. In the kitchen, you need to plan the layout of units really carefully to make the best use of the space. I've given a suggestion but it depends on your priorities. I'd push the dining table as far against the wall as possible, using a bench to maximise seating. You should manage a couple of seats at the island, although you'll have to sacrifice storage space for them. Then try having the couch at a right angle as shown - I know it might seem strange that it has its back to the door, but I think it makes sense. The children's play area is self contained, with a large rug and maybe a couple of bean bags. The couch itself should be as slimline as possible while still being cosy. A whole wall of storage will help to keep all of the toys and games tidy. The only thing I haven't managed to include is a tv- I think the wall facing the couch is all glass? You could possibly put one in the storage unit but it would be at right angles to the couch, so not the best position. Maybe go without?...See Morea kitchen diner with one side of the extension at an angle
Comments (6)Thanks for your replies, apologies for not getting back sooner. Our plan is to remove the walls between reception & extension, put in RSJ to support. Keep a small section of old kitchen for utility room & increase wc space. The reception room area will be our chill out space overlooking the new kitchen. Just finding it difficult to line everything up with the units running down one wall with an island parallel & dining table with all converging at narrowest point. Hope I haven’t confused the issue with too much info. Thanks Evelyn....See MoreKitchen/Diner Extension HELP!
Comments (3)If you are considering remodelling the kitchen, you would open up more options to explore. If you are prepared to undertake more significant structural works (the storage space under the stair creates and awkward corner) further opportunities emerge. These 2 options show some very basic remodelling without any structural work. Both options turn the existing kitchen window into a door. Shower retained with storage along new corridor leading to it. Hope you find these interesting....See MoreLayout ideas please for extension kitchen diner
Comments (4)Hi Tilly, I wanted to draw attention to the living room sofa's vicinity to the bi-fold. You'll be doing a side-shuffle to access the handle to open it up. An additional comment is the side access to your utility space, from the seating area. It is a design and navigational flow detail that may seem superfluous but if you have the space in the utility room to revise this, I would suggest to have access through the kitchen i.e a full length kitchen cabinet that opens to reveal access to the utility room. All the best on your project. Faten from londonfatcat.com...See More2morefeet
