1950s External Facelift - Render/Cladding?
Comments (28)Hi Louise. In the end we merely added new windows and a new door. We went for a mixture of Sapele and aluminium to break up the width of the house. The windows are made by Smart and are the Alitherm Heritage 47 range which are supposed to a close match to Critall. We also converted our garage and matched the windows and use of Sapele frame as well as having a bespoke Sapele gate. We're still not convinced we made the right choice by adding two sapele windows - but we always have the option to add aluminium ones to replace them and they are not too costly. So - it's not 100% what we wanted, but for the budget we had we are very pleased. The garage conversion is very cool inside with bespoke ply shelves/desk and seating area as well as ply walls. It is a homage to Corbusier and his Cabana in South of France :)...See MoreLog cabin colour dilemma
Comments (7)Are you asking about colours for the outside? I would create a contrast between the doors and windows and the cladding/siding. One option is dark grey windows with off-white cladding. Another would be white or off-white windows with a mid-tone cladding color. Blue-grey or green-grey cladding would make the cabin fade into its surroundings more. Get some pots of paint and experiment! I struggle a bit to find any images but these may help: http://www.newquayplastics.biz/images/custom_made_grey_pvc_windows_%26_blue_glass_1a812.jpg?width=792&height=294 http://dellacooks.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Cloud-Street-Residence-exterior-patio-with-Gunmetal-1602-Paint-timber-siding-and-stone-pavers-walk-way-also-light-wood-patio-timber-deck-design-ideas-1024x681.jpg http://www.timber-cladding.co.uk/media/images/gallery/large/shepperd-hut-rebated-cladding-03.jpg...See MoreWhich colour scheme for a wood clad room?
Comments (10)Thank you to everyone for your recommendations! I was thinking grey would be good to cool down all the wood, so will probably go for a grey sofa, maybe a neutral rug (it has to be an oriental one) and some green or blue accents. Still not decided for curtains... @Carrie There will definitely be a lot of plants, mostly hanging ones! A second chair is a good idea, thank you! @AtNo19The windows are north-east facing, a bit of sun in the morning, there is also some light coming through from the attic and the adjoining room (there is a window inside the house - this wall used to be an outer wall before an extension), but it is not a bright room. @Beano: Smooth plaster was my first choice as well, but we have done that in a few rooms already, and painted the clad in others, we have decided to keep the wood in this room for now, since it is easier and we want to keep a bit of the character of the house....See MoreKerb appeal challenge!! 1970's bungalow
Comments (42)Thanks very much Carolina for taking the time and trouble to do the mock ups. They really help. I like the orange, green and yellow. Would you do the side double timber gates in the same colour as the front door or match them instead with the oak window frames? Colourhappy - yes the house design is that way. Its ok to say it 🙂. In terms of the front garden, I'm thinking along the lines of a coastal gravel garden scheme with structured shrubs combined with herbaceous flowering/ foliage plants....See MoreValerie Iosue
