Cushion and Accessories Advice/Inspiration

Hi all,

I've recently bought these mink sofas for my living room but need some help with picking out a pop out colour as everything at the moment is very grey mink and beige based, need a colour to lift the tones mentioned. I'm also thinking to put a coffee table and some side tables in with lamps in this area to fill the room up.

Please let me have your comments on what colour cushions you would go with and any accessories you would think would be best suited? I have currently been drawn to golds purples and pale pinks.

Also any idea where to buy reasonable priced cushions? I've enquired about custom made cushions and they come in around £80 a cushion which is way over budget. Are there any shops that anyone knows of which stock decent quality full cushions?

Hi. Blush pink would look lovely. You can add a couple of things in metallics either in gold or copper to lift it. Have you just painted your walls? If you did want more colour you cold paint them in a soft warm green which would work with the blush and grey, if not a little green in the room would work for accessories and would definitely add a plant somewhere. I'd move the small sofa over so the arms aren't overlapping and then anchor the seating with a rug, I'd go for something patterned. I'd also hang Art over the other sofa, either one large or a few smaller but pick something around 2/3 of the sofa size and hang it just a few inches above the sofa. A coffee and side tables with lamps sounds great.

As suggested previously pink and green would look lovely with minky grey also green and purple/mauve.

The room is in good shape and it appears to be only cosmetic changes that are needed, so I would consider simplifying the whole design as follows: · Paint: You mention grey as one of your preferred colours, so I would try a sample of either Farrow or Ball’s Elephant’s Breath paint or Strong White to see what looks best sits best in the room. Both are contemporary favourites but will flatter the space and alter the atmosphere. Otherwise, aim for off-whites with a creamy, yellow tone to encourage warmth. · Furniture: Purchase furniture with legs to encourage the flow of light and space but if possible do not block the lovely elongated windows. Add a feature Chesterfield ottoman to centre the room and soften the new space. · Window treatment: Instead of curtains, I would actually use sheer voiles across the windows and have Roman blinds in place for the colder evenings to enhance the sumptuous, traditional feel. · Pieces: Add a large timeless mirror above the fireplace to bounce light around the room and maintain that area as the focal point. · Lighting: Work with illuminating the light through the room not only via a pendant light (consider a glass chandelier here) as this will only provide task lighting. You also want to aim for ambient lighting via glass base lamps in the corners and free standing tall lamps. · Soft furnishings: Apply hints of mustard and teal into the soft furnishings such as the cushions will complement the tones from the parquet flooring.

Thank you for your suggestions. I think we would like a very big piece of art or two side by side on the wall next to the sofa. Like those mirrors but not sure where it could fit. Like the idea of dusty pale pink. I think we definitely need some patterns to bring a bit of energy in the room! Have you got any suggestions on good places to buy upholstery material? My mother in law is going to make us some bespoke cushions (she’s amazingly creative!) Do you think abstract art would work best?
