Still can't decide my wall tile - tiler coming tomorrow

Hi all,

I've been antagonizing over the past week on what wall tile to go with my stone calcatta hexagon in my wet room. I did find the perfect tile today but they haven't got it on stock and they have an 8 week lead time. I am back to my original option of both 60 x 30 either light grey or white. Examples below but ignore the white size. i just can't seem to make a decision !!!

Can anyone help ?

Ps my ensuite is very compact.

Hopefully you finished your project, I see the post is from February. Got any finished pics?

Definitely the grey with marble hexagonal tiles, it creates a much more interesting contrast than white, where are they from?

Hi, thanks for the comment, the tiles are from manderin stone in wilmslow, Cheshire.

Dear Everyone, Thank you so much for your help and support! I took on my architect who was quite emotional about it all- he loved the bathroom and thought I was *mad* to want to change it. However, I did and the builder helped us find some tiles. I am thrilled with the result. I kept some of the tiles in our bedroom shower, and love them in moderation. Here are some photos. Thank you very much for your comments A.S,, Kazza, Casa Ceramica and Jonathan. Apologies for my delayed response! The tiler did indeed suggest putting another layer of aquadry backer board over the moisture resistant mdf so thank you for your concerns. Trouble is he then discovered the edge of the bath has a manufacturing fault so the whole project had to be put on hold until a engineer comes out to solve it. It is so frustrating! Still gives me a little longer to decide how to deal with the chrome strip I want to put down the side of the bath panel and the bath. The tiler said it would not show up very well with the current design where the frame is flush with the bath. If I build it out by 5cm with a sliver of tile, I can have the full effect of it but the downside is the spacing between bath and basin is quite narrow. Your thoughts as always are very welcome!!!! Hi all guess what the bathroom still isn't finished but I put some accessories in it and it is already looking quite different. The photo doesn't do it justice it looks better in real life. It looks quite pleasing to the eye. Unfortunately I have bigger problems than how it looks. Do any plumbers know if this shower is access compliant? It has no cut-out or thermostat. You have to control the shower with the bath taps so there is a high risk of scalding. Considering this is a specialist company for mobility I find this pretty shocking. You can't shut off the water other than the taps. Also the temperature fluctuates as there is no thermostat. This is the pipework and electrics below does anyone know if this is legal? See how near the pipes are to the cables??? It seems a bit precarious to me. I am worried about the cables getting hot or wet. Thanks everyone for your support and wish you all a Happy Christmas.

Yes, I have decided to withold payment. I went to the local tile shop today where he also goes to buy materials. I didn't mention any names or identify him. When I showed the woman behind the counter the pics, she advised to not pay. She said not good enough. She also said there is no way whatsoever that the correct grout colour has been used. We think that the guy's labourer/second in command must have used the charcoal colour from the floor tiles on the walls as well. It is quite possible that they have miscommunicated on this. I have included two more pics here to show the colour discrepancy. The silver grey is the one with the green dots. The charcoal is three shades down from that. I feel better for staking a stand on this. The tiler seemed like a reasonable enough guy but I am not going to accept crappy work, otherwise what's the point of spending all that money on a major home renovation that is meant to properly upgrade the whole house? Sorry to disagree but I'd go for white. The grey tile looks cheap (sorry!) next to the marble tile and I think your eye will be drawn from the beautiful hexagonal floor tile onto the wall tile. In all honesty I saw your previous post and didn't comment because you didn't want marble on the wall but a marble metro tile would blend much better and not detract from the feature hexagonal floor.

I think you should just ask the tiler to do the floor & come back at a later date to do the walls. I wonder whether a darker grey would work on the walls although you don't want the room to be too dark overall.

Make the decision and go with the grey, white is going to look to clinical and cold. Grey will go lovely with your hexagon tiles. Good luck

Floor tile amazing choice

wall would look good with pale grey but may be add a vertical or horizontal

strip of hexagonal tiles into wall plan ?

I would definitely go for grey, the white is very expected and it will just become yet another bathroom. The grey does give contrast, much more interesting!

Hi all, I have decided on the grey wall tile now and my tiler is now coming Saturday (phew), now I need to have the room painted. I am not to sure what color to go: My initial thought was white to tie in with the saniraryware. Anyone any ideas ?

Personally, unless you want a clinical white look, I would choose a bright accent colour, like turquoise, teal, jade or raspberry (depending on how much wall will be painted) and echo the same colour in accessories and plants. Most colours would look great against your soft grey and white.
