Comments (14)I used the IKEA BESTÅ range as you can design what you like. Mines is tall at one side lower at other. Internal shelves are moveable and you can have any choice of door or even leave some bits open so you can see books etc. You could design something that'd fit under the stairs for storage. You could also bring TV out from under the stairs and have on a unit on the wall next to it where you currently have a toy. Not sure of your dimensions though and if that's a possibility. I don't work for ikea by the way, I just have their storage solutions all over my house....See MoreLiving area furniture placement
Comments (4)I agree with Angelboyman. Move the sofa nearest the doors 90 degrees to face the fireplace and then if you want you can have your armchair and footstool, Your square coffee table will mean that you can go slightly nearer to the fireplace than you have currently. I'd go for greys and then sagey greens as you need to strike a balance inside and out, because of the beautiful view, stick to colours that you can also see outside. You have a grey / white striped canopy so grey is a good colour, trees, plants etc are green so everything will blend well. You can if you wish have a few accessories such as the cushions, vases in another accent colour, but i'd stay away from anything to heavy such as the terracotta. Just grey and greens will look lovely with the wooden doors, the coffee table, the dining table, the attractive planter by the fireplace etc. Choosing colours from nature mean that you will not be competing with the view, rather more blending with it. I'd change the black picture frames though. Grey / Green - LIght and Airy with the touch of greenGreen / Grey ( personally prefer the first combo )Greige with darker grey accent - best comboGreen and Terracotta, don't know about you, but hate it....See MoreHelp with layout and furniture placement in kitchen/diner/family room
Comments (8)Good morning Hazel, Here's a link to a guide on small extensions under permitted development, if you haven't already looked at. https://interactive.planningportal.co.uk/mini-guide/extensions-single-storey/0 Once you have more idea on the construction of the extension and the exact dimensions, you'll be able to properly assess the internal space you have. You are correct in saying that it wouldn't be ideal to have to walk through the living space into the extension for the dining room. The proposed extension itself may not be ideal for a living/family area once a sofa and TV are in, as this won't leave much space for an external bi-fold/sliding door. Another option to explore is moving the kitchen to the left and having the living/family room to the right hand side (where the kitchen is currently situated). This will then mean the extension will hold the dining space....See MoreHelp with furniture placement in living room
Comments (2)My parents living room has a very similar dimension and layout as yours. The questions I’ve are if the double door area has high traffic? Do you watch a lot of TV? My parents place layout is two three seater sofa facing each other in front of the fireplace with a TV console on the wall opposite, and bookshelves on both sides of the fireplace. My father watches a lot of TV in the evening whilst my mum doesn’t and she uses the space during the day to read and receive friends. The sofas facing each other creates a more formal space for conversation. For your space, I personally won’t have two sofas but one sofa with two armchairs, maybe mid century style on the side to the conservatory. For the conservatory, I could see both rectangular, square or circular dining table work. It depends on your lifestyle again. For example if you regularly have a lot of people for dinner, then a circular might be better. Whilst if normally, you only have less than 4, I might go for rectangular or square. As it allows portion of the table to have a vignette of magazines, candles and vases / plants. I’ve a 6 people dining table and mostly just two of us. So we use it for coffee, reading, more plants and books on one end. If you’d like to spend a lot of time in the conservatory, I’d incline to add seatings like 1 or 2 armchairs, a little sideboard or table to put a lamp to give different lighting level. Again very much depend on what your lifestyle is....See MoreCarolina
