Mylands. You always regret your economies. I've repainted this kitchen 4X over the years, and last time was in Dulux which wore so poorly. Just custom mixed a new vibrant duck egg to paint my kitchen in marble matt walls, eggshell woodwork, and floor paint. Mylands matched impeccably. It was a dream of coverage, and looks spectacular. The quality of the pigment shows, looks the money, nothing like synthetic mediocre pigments in cheaper paint. It's a big improvement.

Hi Claire, Your more than welcome. The advice to use a "local" architect is a good one, he will know the area, the various legislation in force for your district and he should be on talking terms with the local councillors so his advise will save you a lot of time. I would advise you to ask him to do a full survey, interior and exterior, ideally you need an architect that can transfer the survey to ACAD format. (Make it digital)... Even if your only doing the front at this stage its good to have the existing interiors drawn up so you can use them later. When your architect has drawn up the front of the house, please feel free to send it to me and I'll have a tinker to see if I can fine tune it for you. You can contact me through www.angel-martin.com......(No charge, I just want you to get the very best out of the frontage, its a beautiful house, it deserves the attention) With regards to the interior, one bit of advise.... Design "all" the interior layouts at the same time even if you will be doing each room stage by stage. If you do them individually the design will be fragmented. Thanks for your advice both of you. We live in England to answer your question Gabby. Is there a rule in Scotland that the aisles have to be 120cm and if so why ? Jonathan, I was kind of thinking we would want to use the island for eating meals on like we do now with our current kitchen table, but I guess if the DR is open to the kitchen then it wouldn't be a problem to take a few steps more to the dining room table (because we use it so infrequently at the moment I am finding that hard to visualise). I am going to post a better plan of our current kitchen and dining room (with the pantry taken out) and I am also going to post a photo looking out from the window in our dining room. I am wondering if we did turn the DR into our kitchen could we make the window ledge higher and put the units in an L-shape so we could put the sink in the window? (and still have space for an island) I know this goes against some of my earlier points, especially about being worried people would be able to look in at us/and would create a more goldfish bowl feeling but I am just playing around with ideas.

We have a long Island with walnut around the L at one side for 5 stools. We sit at the island every day, youngest two do their home learning there (eldest upstairs in bedroom). We have a free standing microwave in a cupboard in the island (we leave the door open when is use & for 15 minutes afterwards) but no other appliances...we have a deep charging drawer which I wouldn’t be without as with 5 of us & all having phones/tablets/laptops (plus the spares!) it’s great to keep them out of site when on charge/not in use. At each end of the island we have a double socket so it is easy to use the mixer or plug in anything that needs charging whilst in use. Next to the island is our dining table.
