Kitchen inspiration - painting oak cupboards
Comments (8)Really depends on how long you are planning to live with this kitchen for as to how much effort you put in. How good are the cabinet, could you replace the doors within your budget rather than paint them? If you do paint them Elephant Breath F&B paint or Dulux Egyptian Cotton or Fired Earth Oak Apple type colour for the cupboards so the copper tones in the flooring are not fighting with the wood tones? Not sure its possible but see if you can find a tiler to cut out the twee tiles and replace with someone else less twee that fits. I'd def replace the worktops with something more neutral. You've got a lot going on in the colour/texture of the floor and the design of the cabinets so I think you need to calm it down a bit....See MoreWhat Colour Kitchen Cupboards
Comments (19)OK so i have started with reducing the size of the island by removing the end cupboards. At the weekend i will plane the bottom of the end piece as its a little too snug at the moment; this will leave an overhang that will be trimmed down by around half to see how it looks with the breakfast bar. Long term i think the decision is to replace the worktop and move the hob by rotating 90 degrees and putting it at the opposite end of the breakfast bar. With the hob where it is, it doesn't leave much space for the breakfast bar to be functional. Moving the hob means extending the gas pipe underneath but otherwise straight forward. Kickboards and doors are just covering the gaps to stop the cats exploring until i can get the router out Disappointed that the only part of the floor seemingly not treated by the previous owner is the part that i happen to now have on show. all of the rest appears done. Debating scrapping the flooring idea and just having the flooring sanded and made darker. Once all done i will start paint; current options below. Its amazing what lighting and surface does to paint colours. They are all F&B, in order, Downpipe Grey, Hague Blue, Inchyra Blue and current. I'm waiting for "railings" to arrive....See MoreColour ideas for kitchen cupboards please
Comments (11)Hi Sarah, If you are open to it, I suggest painting the doors a soft pink. As you say the worktop and flooring doesn't really need changing and whilst you can re-paint the doors a fresh lick of paint it hasn't really answered your dilemma. If you want to add a bit of warmth, soften the black and cover up marks I'd look into a soft pink something like Calamine or Pink Ground both Farrow & Ball would look lovely. Adding pink will give it a modern edge and I think would work really well against all the black. Sorry this was the best image I could find with black worktops and pink units: I would also change the colour of the walls to a softer creamy pink just so it feels more balanced.
