Flooring help

We recently had a loft conversion in our 50s house & had to have the stair case replaced & the direction of it switched around. Unfortunately this has left us with a hole in our original parquet flooring. The parquet didn't run under the other side as there used to be an understairs cupboard so there isn't any we can reuse. Currently I've just filled it with foam tiles as it's concrete and we have young children but wondering what to do with it in long term? Grateful for any suggestions please as I don't want to rip up original parquet. But not sure what my other options are.
