I don't have one in my island unit. I had one many years ago and didn't think it was effective. This afternoon I've been out to quote on kitchen worktops and they had a wide chimney island extractor over their 5 ring gas hob. To me it stood out like a sore thumb. I certainly couldn't get used to it (especially as a person who doesn't have or like them). I felt as though I would bash my head on it. Based on that I'd opt for something in the ceiling so it's not blocking any view.

A venting hob like the Bora is the best solution, especially if you plan to use an induction hob. A ceiling extractor is discrete, but, if you enjoy cooking and making fumes, a ceiling extractor is not likely to work as well as a good ventilating hob. If you do speak to Westin, I think they will tell you that a ceiling extractor is not the best solution for cooks who like to make lots of vapours, especially with smokey cooking. A ceiling hob is usually too high to be effective for serious cooks, unless it has a very powerful motor and has a deep inclined baseplate, which does not help your issue. A venting hob can extract outside (with forward planning) or, in most cases, recirculate. The expense isn't that high given that you get a hob and extractor in one.

I think by the time you've got the splashback in and all your stuff in the kitchen, you'll stop noticing it as much. The only alternative would be to change the carcass to a white one but it's up to you whether it's worth the hassle and wait

What's the best recirculation hood?

Hello, We're renovating an apartment and it's not possible to put in a proper range hood with ducts. I've been going through the internet for hours to find a really good recirculation hood. I seem to get a lot of random reviews that seem to be by websites just linking to amazon to get you to buy something. Any tips most welcome for what will function the best. Not worried about design too much. Eliminating odor is probably the priority. Thanks
