experience on buying bathroom products online.

Hi, I would like to know if anyone has had any experience on buying bathroom products on line or from showroom i.e toilets, showers, etc. I have been to a bathroom showrooms and they have quoted around £700 for a walk in shower / wetroom and on line e.g (ebay) I could buy one for £300...I would like to know if I would be doing the wrong thing to buy from online then to buy from trusted showroom. I look forward for your advice.

Hi R Dj,

Without sounding flippant but I think your last line is your answer. If you buy from a trusted showroom and pay by credit card you should have more protection and recourse if there were any problems. Don't forgo your checks just because it's cheaper. "Buy cheap - Buy twice". Granted there are deals to be had from the ebay's of this world but I would have to know them or been recommended; check their reviews; (but be careful cause reviews on ebay can be bought) what are their returns policy and after sales care procedures. Buyer beware. Good luck :)

thanks for your reply. I think I have come to a conclusion that I will buy from a showroom, it does cost around £700.00 more but I would think it would be more of a quality bathroom then any bathroom bought from online company's.

Hi Stefka, The bathroom is coming along nicely. Is the bath panel a match to the sink base? What material is the floor, vinyl or wood? If it's wood and you're not happy with the colour, have you considered either bleaching it, then colour washing it to a similar colour to the tiles around the bath or staining it darker? (Going darker will make the bathroom seem smaller.) To keep the textures and colours as simple as possible, paint the plaster walls a colour that is 2-3 shades lighter than the square wall tiles. A different colour will chop the room up more. A big mirror over the sink ledge, wall to wall, will make a huge difference to the feel of the room. It will reflect light all around and visually double the space. Colour can be added through towels and accessories like special bottles for oils and lotions. Your tiles look to be a pinky beige so look at neutrals or pale turquoise. Plastic shutters can be wiped down with ammonia and water in the course of cleaning the bathroom and allow access to the window for cleaning and ventilation.

This might sound a bit oddball but how about a vintage tall corner cabinet for storing towels, bottles, etc. Just think that if you went with a small cabinet you’d have the same issues that you’re having now. There are lots of styles which you can pick up second hand for next to nothing and you could paint or varnish to how you want (this is just an example: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rustic-Tall-Corner-Cabinet-Shabby-Chic/253999560281?hash=item3b238db659:g:dasAAOSwRhFbo1mG ). I initially thought of wallpaper but think it will look too busy all over, how about getting a sample and putting into a frame for artwork. I saw this pattern (see pics) and thought it would look great with your decor, thinks it’s called Flying ducks by Mulberry. Also added a pic with idea for mirror over the sink. Did you go to multiple showrooms and outlets to look get a scope of the market or maybe look online? I copied a hotel bathroom I had liked as well as a picture from Houzz 2. Did you measure the bathroom yourself? No. If no, would you be confident in measuring your bathroom yourself? No 3. Had you heard of any bathroom manufacturers or companies before you started research to do your own bathroom? No 4. Did you need a lot of help on the layout and design and bathroom? The builders planned it 5. If you were guaranteed by hundreds of customers that the quality was excellent + the manufacturers own guarantee would you still want to touch, feel and see the product before buying it - if you were supplied images like the images at the bottom?? See proposed vs real Would go with reviews 6. What do you wish you had / hadn't done? Happy with it as it is, though wish I'd got my own tiler and not used the builder's 7. What do you love about your bathroom? The big bath, the power shower, the space 8. I agree with all of the others, definitely the budget first! Do not only go for a product because it is cheaper but also make sure it will match your layout. Think ahead, and choose the right colour match too. Of course, we could give you many pieces of advice, but the final decision is on you.
