Help me revision my exterior for maximum kerb appeal
Comments (23)Time to revive this! Having had consultations with not one but two architects (Karin & Groveraxle were both right; not very costly and money well spent) who both offered up good suggestions and helped me come up with a plan of work for the house. I have had building contractors tendering for the work and have just this morning settled on the firm I am going to use. Work on the house will begin before the end of the month and is scheduled to take 6 weeks. There will be no structural changes to the outside but a little bit inside which will give me a bigger kitchen and will open up the living space somewhat. Also master bedroom is being reworked to add an en-suite, structural reworking of hallway and cloakroom - it will look so different and yet quite evidently the same house which is what I wanted :) Lots of cosmetic changes to take place externally and internally which is the bit I have been looking forward to. You are all invited back to help me make firm decisions about paint colours, wood varnishes, light fittings, flooring type, worktop choice et al! The journey continues :)...See MoreNeed Help with improving kerb appeal!
Comments (66)Hi All, Here's an update. The hedges have settled in nicely over the last 4 years (has it really been that long already?!) They had a trim at the weekend, not the best time of year to cut Phontinia I know, but they had gotten a little out of control.. I intend to add a gate over the next few months and continue to plant the beds along the house. They currently have hydrangea and French lavender plants (oh and the odd azalea) in them but need more. Also going to plant a border of box around each of the beds the trees on the lawn are in - hence why these look a little scruffy at the mo.. I've considered growing something on the walls, but still not sure what or how. Each summer I add two hanging baskets either side of the front door - which help break it up a little. Still very much a work in progress (aren't they always ;-) ) but I like it. Thanks for all the comments, ideas and suggestions - much appreciated!...See MoreNeed help to improve kerb appeal and rear extension advice
Comments (6)Front: Renew the windows to the main house. Put in some metal frame units. Change the colour. Try Velfac. They do a unit which is timber on the inside. Break up the garage wall with some planting/ shrubs. Possibly more planting around the border of the garden. The flat roof part of the house isn't great - may be add a pitch... Rear: New windows to the main house. I agree extension right across or 2 new extensions that match with a courtyard between with new doors from house. Again, break the elevation/site lines with some additional planting. Pitched roof over the flat roof would definately help here....See MoreCurb appeal help needed
Comments (21)As far as the driveway is concerned you appear to have a sound concrete surface there already. If you can find a good local contractor who is properly trained in Resin Bonded Gravel then you could give you price to change the finish your driveway without digging it up at all. That would avoid a lot of cost and wastage so it is likely to be cost effective. The edging and any areas which are not would need to be considered carefully. A contractor may want to drill out core samples to check the thickness of the drive but it has been used for some time and not cracked then it should be fine. Resin Bonded Gravel is stuck onto the existing surface which will need to be clean and dry at the time. Check that any contractor has been trained and is properly insured....See MoreLisbet Home and Style, Esher
