Sofa dilemma!
Hello.
I had envisioned an elegant, deco-esque, spacious and light living room. I bought this wallpaper (for one long wall), pale dove grey paint for the remaining three walls, art deco mirror, dove grey curtains, white furniture, and had chosen an elegant dove grey suite on tall oak legs.
However, at the last minute my hubby revealed he's really attached to the current suite and doesn't want to get rid of it (partly for personal reasons). Disaster! The current suite is farrr to big for the space, and I do not like the colour.
So, whilst practically crying I've been trying to come up with a solution :D. He will at the very most allow me to recover the sofa in a more modern dove grey colour, and he will allow me to replace the swivel chair with a smaller armchair.
But I can't seem to find a chair which will not look silly with the sofa. So do I just need to decorate around the terrible suite? Or can anyone think of a chair that would work?

If this is the case then go for a soft tone of grey on the walls. collect some colour charts from the decorating shop near you they are free. Furniture depends on how modern/contemporary you want to go. Comments (14)What a stunning space! Glad you made your decision on the sofa, it's going to look lovely. In terms of accessories and rugs, I think the room would look best with some more greys and blues, to accent that lovely carpet. You will need good lighting, especially in the darker corner on the right. This is a great rug that would bring in some more blue tones. Then you could accessorise with similar colours in your cushions, throws and curtains/blinds. These lamps are gorgeous and minimalist, and give a lovely soft glow. They come in different sizes, and can be hung in attractive groups, or as statement lights on their own. And they come in a 'nomad' option - these can be picked up and carried around by their little silicone handle, and placed on the floor or table. And for coffee tables - these smart metal side tables come in a few varying shades of white, grey, blue and black, and several heights. They could be placed next to the sofa, or in the corner. 7 years agoHi. Is it more of a Hollywood regency style you're after? I think the sofa is absolutely fine TBH! Just add some geometric cushions, maybe a faux fur throw over the chaise part and perhaps a couple of solid colours. I wasn't sure if you wanted an actual Art Deco styled chair? If not, so many styles will go with the sofa. The first one is from made which comes in 3 colours, I know the legs aren't but the back reminded me of an Art Deco style! You could also look at club chairs, the 3rd pic is just showing one with a sofa which isn't on legs although personally I'd prefer a chair on taller legs. I would move the tv up and have the chair angled opposite the sofa. I would add a cocktail trolley where the chair is, this is from design vintage for £310. Kelly hoppen also does a cheap Art Deco style decanter.

7 years agoGold? Really it looks like a very pale grey on my screen how funny! Would a couple of stools or pods be a more flexible seating option that takes up less space?

7 years agoYes Minnie you're spot on, I googled Hollywood Recency and that's more like what I want than art deco. The fifth picture of yours is perfect, the rug is divine.

With all of this in mind,I'm thinking we should recover the sofa ina soft pale grey and change the feet to something a little more elegant. Then we could get rid of the swivel chaor altogether, and replace withone of those upholstered ottoman things which could double up as extra seating. That way the light would still come in the French doors, and since it wouldn't technically be part of the suite there would be no preasure to have it match the sofa perfectly as it's just another piece of furniture. Something like this but in a grey or taupe colour?
