How can I make this more cosy!?
Comments (22)You need warm tones and a mixture of textures. Persoanally, I would have a large fluffy rug by the sofa and drape throws on the sofa to soften the edges. I am sure the landlord would want you to make the property comfortable. After all, a happy tenant is more likely to look after the place. Also, have you considered buying some large wicker trunks for the little ones toys. If you stack them they will look nice and protect the windows. Also, being trunks, they will look nice from both the hall and the living room area...See MoreModern Living Room (in the making!)
Comments (11)Hi Emma. Do you actually need a new sofa as yours looks absolutely fine to me?! You only have a couple of pics in your ideabook and assuming the feature wall is staying (purple, mustard/yellow and grey is a great combination) then I found this rug on the link which seems to have a purple undertone. The rug will zone the living space and add a cosy feel. I'd also add a textured throw over the arm of the chair, sheepskins are always good. There looks to be room for a side table next to the sofa, if not the chair, this one is from atkin and thyme and I agree I love some of the lamps from Graham and green. Can you sort the cables next to the tv and perhaps add a tall potted plant? Maybe also try angling the chair a little more towards the sofa with the footstool in front. I'd Also add a little more mustard with a couple of patterned cushions. The art looks as if it's hung a little high, I'd bring it down a few inches to connect with the sofa and also paint the entrance door in the wall colour. You could also add another piece of art behind the dining table. http://www.redcandy.co.uk/plantation-cluster-rug...See Morewood panelled Hall
Comments (14)The brass has all gone, as has the old reception desk and that alone has opened up the space hugely. We have also removed a section of the shelving at the top of the panelling which I think is going to look better as it is decreasing the shadowing. The place hasn’t been touched for at least 20 years. I agree with lightening the floor and perhaps adding some protection I high traffic areas with some rugs. On the wall I am thinking a soft mushroom colour or even a green. I would like to go bold but as we are in the highlands I am torn with the tradition of muted colours. I am investigating lighting to replace the dated spots and was thinking of playing with strip leds hidden along the top of the panel...See MoreHow to make the outside of a house look more attractive
Comments (11)I think lightening up the top part of the house and adding planting would look good too - I also think you should darken the paving at the front to a couple of shades darker than the roof to anchor the house to the ground and stop making it look so top heavy. I would also add a brightly coloured door to lead the eye downwards instead of up towards the roof, as well as adding plants and other bits of interest in the front garden will help draw the eye there instead of up towards the proportionately large roof space...See MoreSammy
