Shelving advice needed!

I want to add a couple of shelves in our built in wardrobes/closets. I know how to do it, I'm just not sure which material to use, melamine board of MDF?

I want to create something like this using a shelf as a desk in the closet. Which material would be better?

It looks like these were constructed using MDF so I would go with that option, you could use 25 mm for the desk part.

i notice that you hv a work area in the kitchen. I'm no expert in interior design but I'd like to share my humble idea. You could hv your work area near the window. have a raised counter thn the rest of the kitchen counter, like a bar table? youcould choose to have smaller depth for it fit for you laptop or the same depth like a kitcjen counter. If you choose the have the same depth like the rest of the counter than you can the cabinet/shelvin half the depth of the counter top so you can push in your bar chair. Have a glass partition (optional) between your work area and the sink. Having the Sink in front of the window would be nice and the dish washer beside it if space allow for it. Thecooker can stay at the original place. That way you can have plenty of counter space beside the tall unit.

Need help with shelves on curved wall

Hi there I want to put up some shelves on a curved wall. It's the wall of my son's den and I want the picture shelf to hold some books (lightweight paperbacks that would bend) I like these shelves but need to find an alternative that could be used on a curved wall see other picture for room. Any advice as to what could be used?

Various options to consider in addition to those of bookworm. A mantle shelf (think chunky, but rounded, oak in a driftwood style - could work to help bring the stove area "forward" - alternatively you could work in shelving which has radiused ends which curve gently in towards the stive, keeping a focal point. My own preference, however, would be to frame out around the stove to give a false chimney breast, and possibly add a fireplace or mantle shelve, then add bespoke shelving/cupboards either side. If you size it carefully, you could use standard sized kitchen/furniture cupboards to keep costs down. The fake chimney breast need not be expensive - some cheap timber framing, a couple of sheets of plaster board and two skimming beads plus some paint. And with a little careful thought, you could build in some secret hidden storage as well!

Hi Lisa, I agree with Sonia (above comment) I would not remove the work surface space as it gives you space either side of the cooker to prepare/serve up. I love the shelving you have picked out as it brings a new dimension/texture to the space. Looking at your dining chairs you are not afraid of colour so I would pick a colour/tile that makes you smile and lay in an interesting pattern formation (herringbone/basket weave) to bring some colour and texture to the space. if you are a diy'er then getting hold a bit if mdf is probably a bit easier, the melamine faced chipboard available in most builders merchants or diy stores is pretty poor quality. the mdf you'll be able to sand and paint up and make it look as good as you like.
