I want a wood effect look in my open plan ground floor but am very con

I need something that is easy to maintain. But also looks like wood. I've had solid hard wood flooring in the past and had lots of dents as it was Canadian maple.
Now that I'm having ufh I need to pick something that is suitable. The area is very large and want something warm and soft on the feet.

Hi Nina,

Have a look at the Karndean range. You'll also need your supplier to check your underfloor heating as you may need a high temperature adhesive.

Sorry- I don’t like your plan. In my opinion the space between the sink and hob is where the work happens so you are actually a bit tight for space. I think the door from the kitchen to the playroom is a massive fail- firstly you are inviting the kids to run past the cooking area, secondly is splits the kitchen and there are safety implication for having a walkway through the kitchen, I also think it makes your kitchen plan feel disjointed. I also think that if the children are young they won’t want to be in the playroom, they will want to be where you are. If you are worried about the playroom being dark this is easily sorted with better lighting and a pale coloured floor. Alternatively make this the grown up room and the kids playroom near the front door. I also think that putting the sitting area around the corner in the extension makes it feel enclosed and a little tight because of its location. I think you have put too many stools at the island and in reality people rarely use more than 3. In my opinion better to have fewer comfortable seats that are spread out with room to eat. I also think you missed an opportunity to have a cupboard near the front door to hide coats, shoes and a vacuum cleaner. I think that if you want an extra shower it may be easier to put this off the bootroom- a bigger utility/ bootroom area may help later to keep sports equipment/ dogs/ ironing etc etc out of sight. There is a privacy argument to put it where you have but I suspect the wall you have moved to take a corner off the kitchen is a job that will require a steel.

We don't have pets (sadly) or children (not so sadly) but still wanted a floor that would work for kitchen/lounge/dining space and underfloor heating. We wanted the wood look which isn't very effective with UFH, so went for a lovely Porcelanosa wood effect porcelain tile throughout out open plan space and into the utility and downstairs shower room. We love it and have had no problems with tile breakages. Because the tiles have varying wood-style patterns, they've fooled many people into thinking they're wood at first. I think I’m talking about both the perceived feel/look of something and the colour! Like the natural cork colours are both warm to touch and warm in colour, same with many of the engineered wood samples. I went to a really good floor shop last week near me in Stockport and discovered 3 LVT brands that I was quite impressed with; Harvey Maria, Green flor which does an eco floor that looks quite convincing to wood and Project Floors. I have a sample of the HM one but I’m awaiting the other two and then I’ll decide between those and the cork. I do really like the cork but it does also mark easily so I’m now wondering if it would hold up to kids and muddy boots coming in from the garden etc and we did want to use it in the hall and understairs toilet so it would be quite a lot of cork. I agree with you colourhappy that tiles is probably the most suitable flooring out of everything and that it’s can be warm looking, but my partner isn't keen! Typical! I think like Fi Mo we will most likely end up with LVT simply due to practicality reasons, although I am a bit sad not to be going with something natural. I think if I can find the most convincing product possible I can probably live with it...although I’ll probably keep changing my mind until I’m forced to order something, which will be soon!! it’s great to discuss it on here though :) Xx

Best flooring for open plan kitchen diner lounge?

Need advice on flooring ootions for new open plan kitchen, dinner and lounge area. Initially i was considering plain off white large tiles as it's a big space 6m x 9m. I am torn between the warm tones wood gives vs practicality of tiling and have considered wood effect tiling or luxury vinyl but i don't want it to look cheap as we are going for a high end look. We will also have underfloor heating. If anyone has used these any feedback would be very useful. We will also have a seperate lounge which will have double doors opening into the open plan area and I'm not sure if it should have the same flooring or different? Someone recommended engineered wood flooring for the front lounge...
