help with colour combinations

well I am in a bit of a colour crisis.. I need some help ,,

at the moment

I have a light olive on the main wall with the fire place.

On the right side of it a frame which is 100cmx80cm in gold with a picture of a woman in a red dress.

on the left does nothing hang,, there is just the heavy corner shelf in natural wood with a TV on it.

then left again are the curtains in dark grey under neath a white see through curtain with tree designs.

the wall is white. as is the rest of walls in the room.

the carpet is light grey, and about 3 month old.

the sofas are from ikea, Norsborg.in cream..

for some reason I feel I am not finished yet.. can anyone give my any tips

Hi, I see different styles: modern sofas and traditional curtains with tie backs, traditional fireplace, mirror and candlesticks, traditional TV cabinet. I think you need to incorporate some modern furniture items (coffee table for example, a more modern style mirror above the fireplace and maybe a different solution for the TV, but it's hard to give suggestions without seeing the whole room) and accessories.

And I think that the easiest solution for your colour problem is to swap the red painting for one that has blues and some green in it, to tie in with the rug.

Hi, I agree with Carolina, there is a mixture of styles going on, modern and traditional. A more modern mirror and modern tv unit or painting the one you have to match the fireplace and sofas will certainly update the room. I can see 4 colour clashes going on, the red in the painting, blue rug, grey curtains and the yellow cushions. I think you need to choose which of these you like the most and work you're colour scheme around that. For me, (judging by the photo) I think the curtains are a bit too dark and seem oppressive. I like the sheer curtains but I think a pale linen/ neutral colour for the outer curtains would work much better.

Hi P108 P What we know is that she is a teenager, and doesn't like pinks, but she likes greens and blues. Consider painting ceiling and walls in different colour than white - consult with her. I would go with Polished Pebble. It’s softer. My friend has it teamed with a pretty yellow and green wallpaper and it looks great. I know nothing about bulbs, but I think any room is cosied up by table lamps and floor lamps and I have a lamp in each corner. A floor lamp is always great peering over a sofa. Creates a very cosy feel at night, in fact I never use the overhead light! Here’s some images, but I’m not sure of your decor style.

Pick a solid white, perhaps some structure, bit of gold/linen in it. Or paint the truffle throughout and hang some artwork or framed posters. Curtains white as well, a red accent (ribbon) would be fun. Next time remember a paint color should be picked after you chose a wallpaper/fabric, not the other way around ;)

Thank you Sonia and Colourhappy!.. Id not even considered a pinky colour! I'm on the Suffolk boarder so could be quite fitting in reference to the link. By any chance would you know the colour? or brand of paint of the house in the pic or similar? I only have a Farrow and Ball and Dulux weathershield colour chart but not seeing anything to match a "dirty pink? Feeling quite excited now to inject some love and colour into our new home!..fake Shutters and all! Thanks so!

The curtains need to be pulled back all the way and the tiebacks removed. Go for a metal hold back to match the rods instead and dont swag at all.
Add cushions in light and medium blues and sage. Floor baskets and lanterns in varying heights; some random sofa plaids and pouffes. Put the pair of candlesticks together at one side if the fireplace snd possibly a blue ceramic planted pot at the other side. Arrange an interesting mantel and change the mirror frame to something trendier. The tv unit needs to go, try something more contemporary but not minimalist or new vintage. Statement coffee table of the same style. Go for more lighting - standing lamps and table ones as well as a nice central hanging lamp if you have the electrical position for one. The red in the painting seems okay but you need to add more wall art using pictures with the colours of your palatte as well as other wall hangings - it doesnt have to be all pictures.

Your window dressing looks to heavy and colour is not clear in the post can you take photo from a different angle.

I meant new vintage would be nice. Reread my post and it sounded a bit off.
