Bathroom with low ceiling (2.2m)

We have a bathroom (2.3m x 2.8m) which is a very decent size but the ceilings are just 2.2m. This bathroom is an addition and everywhere else has 3m high ceilings. How can we compensate when decorating (paint colours, tile choices etc) and installing the new sanitary ware. There is a small window and the room is a perfect rectangle.

This is not the planned layout but the door and window are accurately shown. The ceiling doesn't slope it would be flat. Thanks

my bathroom is in dire need of some TLC, it is looking cold and the walls are looking a little dirty, very much in need of a lick of paint. My bathroom is a long shaped room, rather like a long hallway, and the sink basin, bath, and toilet are all together at one end. it is a spacious bathroom, but I want to make it look a little more sensual in the evening and contemporary practical during the day. I would like to have two different shades of grey, a darker shade near the sink basin and bath, and a lighter shade on the long walls and ceiling, with, wait for it, glitter mixed into the paint.. what does anyone think of this or other ideas, on a real low budget though.. many thanks.xx

Thanks Alison. I'm thinking fitted toilet and sink with storage built around it, I hate things *on display* and I like it all to be packed away, so much storage is definitely a plan. I was also thinking possibly of putting spotlights in that are adjustable so I can vary the light - it's expensive but I put them in the kitchen and the light quality is fantastic. It's really the bath that's my issue - I want it to be full size but I can't see how - I'm thinking the only solution is to change the layout but even then I can't see how it can all fit in without being cramped.

I think I'd go for the same colour as the walls tbh, if not just a shade or 2 lighter, any contrast just highlights the height. What's going on the floor as a pattern may distract or a rug/bath mat (modern one!) if not? I think the wall lights will help as will obviously the white sanitaryware. Are you able to hang the tiles vertically or will that nor work? Maybe pick something bright as an accessory to distract, even just a plant. Is there a window as a blind hung as high as possible could help or a really large mirror etc

Query - why does the back wall of your shower have a slanted bit at the bottom? Is there something behind that, and under your storage area, that would mean you can't use all that back wall? If there's nothing there, and no problem with that corner, then: 1 - You could leave the bath where it is. Upgrade the panelling around the base and maybe put a little door in the panelling for under bath storage of cleaning stuff etc. Maybe even upgrade the bath itself too? And then move the loo to the back left corner, facing the window. Move the basin closer to the new loo position, and further away from the door, and build a low storage 'wall' all along that side wall, with the basin on it, and the loo also. The top of that new 'wall' will be a shelf for putting nice candles etc. Then, mirror all across that side wall, above the shelf, to increase the light and spaciousness. This is what we had in our tiny bathroom. It's more linear looking, with the main items on opposite sides of the room. 2 - Move the bath to horizontally across that back wall as you suggested - if space allows for the length of the bath. I think there will be enough space for a shower, even with sloping ceiling. Try standing up in the bath, and see if there is room above the tallest person's head. If you attach a pump to the shower, you will have enough power for a good shower. Maybe use mirror type tiles on the back wall above the bath to reflect light, and increase space. Move loo further into the room. Consider putting basin beside loo if there's enough room now, under the window and connecting them both, with a similar streamlined idea to above. This will square out the room a bit, leaving central space. You will also have a little space then on the left side where the sink was. Maybe a towel ladder could go there, or nice storage basket for loo rolls etc. 3 - Go and talk to Carolina in the Tubs & Tiles in Sandyford, in Dublin. She's amazing, and is a qualified architect, so she really understands space. She re-did our tiny bathroom. It looks amazing and has already won a prize! We took out the bath for a walk in shower. Which is my next suggestion to you! Even if you have small toddlers etc - you can always get a big plastic basin for baby bathing for a couple of years, and leave it in the shower. We left the sink and loo along the left side, and they're connected with the type of shelf I mentioned above. Good luck!

Thank you for the plan. My first advice to give an impression of height is to fix a vertical mirror from the washbasin to the ceiling. The choice of neutral colors also contributes to the feeling of space, such as white, beige, gray ...

The shower screen/ or bath screen can also go up to the ceiling. If you want more color and style cement floor tiles can be nice ! with a large rectangular tile and neutral on the wall are a good option. Another idea for the walls is tiling in 3d, white. I hope this will help you.
