Do you prefer open plan or divided plan?

Our clients in Tooting chose an open plan space that is home to
both their kitchen, and dining area.

Would you choose something like this or would you choose divided plan?

Yes I love open plan designs!

No I like seperate rooms

I think an open plan layout always looks great and can really work to make a smaller space feel bigger. But if I had a large space to begin with, I'd probably stick with separate!

Open plan is very well suits with both the modern and small spaces. It also depends on the culture for instance some people in some countries like big and advanced kitchens that seperate area is necessary.

I'm looking to renovate the ensuite of my 2 bed flat and came across photos of open plan bathrooms. Some of the photos look great and I'm considering it as I don't have much room to work with in the bathroom and my bedroom has room I can use. I'm looking at moving the basin into the bedroom area, which would free up space for a bath and shower. I was thinking of making the basin look less bathroom-y and more like a makeup desk using wood and soft furnishing and a full length mirror. The rest of the bathroom would be behind a wall (no door). Main problem is that the door to the bedroom will open to the the basin (the rest of the bedroom is on the left), which I guess would put people off. I quite like the idea but I'm concerned it would put off potential buyers (more so after reading the comments). Should I stick with a traditional ensuite? I can put a bath and shower in there but I think it would be too cramped or I can loose the bath and have more room with just a shower. What do you think?

Thank you guys ... food for thought as always! @ Jonathan, it was a bit of a dilemma trying to work out what room to put into what zone as where the lounge is will be suffering from inner dark room syndrome. In the end we decided to put the lounge there as the kitchen and dining spaces are where we want the most natural light. We have the sofa in that configuration because it's a set we own and was an expensive very big custom built U shaped one so it has to come with us! Plus with the TV going on the wall the utility wall, it would not work for us in terms of having the sofa symmetrically around the TV ... the final thing to settle it was that on some days when we have finished dinner and can't be bothered to do the dishes straightaway, at least we don't have to look at them ha ha! @ Cathy when we tend to have large social gatherings we are always in little clusters all over the house and when we have small friends gatherings we tend to spend the whole evening at the dining table ... maybe moving to the lounge for final coffees but not always however now we are planning to have a corner fireplace it will be nice to "retire" in the lounge Re: storage, there is going to be a sideboard behind the sofa (to hopefully stop them from moving back) which will serve as storage ... though am sure hubster will have ideas of making it a minibar! Back to @ Jonathon - I think the bench idea for extra seating around the dining table is a very good one which I hadn't thought about. It will serve the purpose of as Jen P said, being able to sit and look at the garden and also provide the much needed extra seating when we have family get togethers and save us having to stock up on extra chairs! I think a bench with storage underneath perhaps the way to go?

Ideally I wouldn’t have guests walking through the utility to use the loo and I think you’ll find doing laundry would be easier having a door from the hall. However in option 2, 1m is very tight as the loo would need to go on the long wall, could you not pinch some space from the utility?

Three years ago, when we were moving into our house, there was a room for which we couldn’t think of a suitable name, and for the purposes of moving and unpacking we needed a name. Some bright spark suggested that, like the meeting rooms in the comedy spoof of the BBC ”W1A”, we name it after a famous comedian. Thus, three years later, we still have a room known to all my friends and family as ”Ronnie Corbett”. It’s not descriptive, but everyone knows what we mean 🤣🤣🤣
