Comments (14)Japanese panels look lovely and minimal, but when it comes down to light control and flexibility they are not great. The biggest drawback is that one section of window is permanent,y covered even when fully open. Shutters and Venetian Blinds can cover all of the window but be tilted to allow light in even when they are drawn together or fully pulled down. Shutters offer even more light flexibilty due to having split panels. The louvres on on the top panel can be open letting light through, whilst the bottom section can be closed and vice versa. I had Japanese panels in my dining room for several years but installed my own shutters just before last Christmas, it's made an incredable difference. Another problem with Japanese panels is that to come accross a three metre span the track required could be too deep to fit the reveal. Comments (0)I plan to update my current curtains which is 21 years old (see pictures). I intend to replace the curtains of the small windows next to the fire place with Roman blinds and to replace the curtain before the French door too. The dilemma are: 1. Recess or outside window Roman blinds? 2. Do I need to increase the drop of the new wave heading curtain (on metropole) right up near the ceiling? Would it look better? Comments (9)Hi, Sandra, In my opinion this would depend on how dark you need the room to be; if you need it dark for sleeping then I would suggest using a blind(roman or roller) inside the recess, and then having a more sheer curtain on a track going across the top of the entire wall -- you could use a pair of curtains for each window; if they are lightweight it wouldn't affect the radiator in the middle if you wanted to pull them back. The sheerish curtains would work with the overall feel of the room. Alternatively you could still have the blinds in the recess and the single track, with more tailored curtains -- one for each window, so when they are pulled back (with a holdback) there would be one on the left of the left hand window, and one on the right of the right hand window.
