Should we put skirting board under the inset fire?
Comments (5)Hello Claire, I apologies if this sounds like a rant but I will attempt to structure it. In my opinion skirting boards are a waste of space, they are just another thing to clean. Their original purpose was so that fancy shoes with spurs wouldn't end up carving out the wall, but since anyone who wears spurs today will find themselves ridiculed to no end, skirting boards have become a way to hide an untidy job with respect to carpeting. My advice is of course to check what your skirtingboads aee hiding and if there is nothing objectionable take them out. If you like them and find they act as a pleasant intermediate between wall and floor keep them and maybe even paint them a contrasting colour to make a feature out of them....See MoreSkirting board query (quarter-round in 1 room but not others)
Comments (3)Personally I think it looks better if the skirting is removed and flooring put underneath. When replacing the skirting cut down to allow for the height of the new floor under the pipes and machine the round on to the cut edge. Looks a professional finish and the fact that someone would take the time to do it this way is always going to score points on selling. Hope this helps....See MoreKnock down wall or remodel
Comments (1)Personally I’d want the living space to have the views and garden access. I also wouldn’t be keen walking down two floors to do the laundry (I have that!) id probably convert the kitchen and dining into a master with ensuite though rather than two bedrooms. live it in for a while though and see what works for you and then bring an architect on board...See MoreSkirting board heating
Comments (1)Skirting board heating works the same as any other heating. You work out the heating requirement for the room and then add heating accordingly. Conventional under floor heating takes a long time to heat up but Over floor heating is a newer option and works much like radiators i.e. heats up and cools down quickly....See MoreMBH Carpentry and Joinery Ltd.
