Furniture and colour to match solid oak flooring
Comments (12)In terms of the furniture you just want something in a colour to offset the floor ie darker wood, white/black lacquer or gloss or painted furniture. It's a good idea to tie the colours into the rooms. Have a look at farrow and balls grey colours and their colour suggestions. Maybe elephants breath in the hall and a light grey in the lounge with a darker shade in the dining room. You could also try a feature wall in a darker shade if wanted. (Do make sure the rooms have enough light to carry the grey though) Go for a darker grey sofa and maybe try either white, silver and black accessories and furniture. Or if you want it warmer add pale pinks or mauves but don't have more than 60% of the rooms in grey. Try a large drum or sphere pendant or chandelier for the ceiling and add a statement floor lamp in each room ie arc, angle poise or tripod/movie. If you add table lamps keep them simple as the room may not take 3 statement lights. Hang the light low over the dining table and you could also try the same with a chair or sofa. Unfortunately I can't find pics that tie this all in together. Do have a look at the website madeaboutthehouse and their 50 shades of grey which may give you ideas....See MoreOak stairs & floor - oak overload?
Comments (9)How many doors will be off the hall as it may be a little too much oak but will you use a runner/rug? I'm sure the laminate will look just as good! What sort of slate effect were you looking at? Some of the light or honey toned ones would look good but I think the darker grey could look a little cold. I haven't found natural stone an issue in the past, just make sure whatever cleaning fluid you use doesn't have acid in. Or have a look at limestone effect? I only suggest limestone as the honey should work with the wood and the grey will work will the carpet but you can also get similar slate effect. My search has only yielded these so far! http://www.alistairmackintosh-porcelain.co.uk/sahara-natural-stone-porcelain-tiles.html I also spotted an encaustic style tile in your Ideabook, is it worth looking at these?...See MoreHall, stairs & landing
Comments (10)This is my finished hall..just need some pictures maybe. So the old solid banister is gone and replaced with spindles and oak rail & newel posts.I painted the walls in rolling fog pale and changed the doors to half glass oak to let light in from all angles. The front door is a beautiful Chartwell Green on the outside..white inside. Carpet is a mid grey with a beautiful red Persian rug...See MoreLaminate flooring in hall and landing but carpet on stairs?
Comments (10)Hi Ann, you most certainly can! We think it makes a lovely design statement. Halls and stairs are great spots to introduce personal style and you can afford to be bold in your interior choices. If your hallway and staircase is a wide, open and airy space, why not let a striped carpet take centre stage. Cormar’s Avebury collection, pictured below, is made from 100% pure new wool comes in either a neat, level loop pile or a textured loop pile and offers four tonal striped designs and eight plain, stylish shades: https://www.cormarcarpets.co.uk/product_avebury/product_avebury.php. A bold carpet colour might be overpowering in a large living room but can look at home on a staircase. Experiment with a deep homely purple (Cormar’s Sensation Twist in Wild Cherry) or a charcoal grey shade to add a pop of style. Complement with lots of white or cream woodwork to keep the look simple and sophisticated. https://www.cormarcarpets.co.uk/product_sensationtwist/product_sensationtwist.php Let us know what you decide to go with!...See MoreDaisy England
