How should I lay out my 'interesting' London flat? - Advice needed
Comments (4)Hi. I would do something like the attached which isn't particularly to scale but existing bed 2 has been reduced to 10x10. I'd only make the bathroom a bit bigger unless you want to widen it by taking a little from the new Master bedroom. Move the bath down 20-30cm and have shelves built in floor to ceiling for storage. If you wanted you could have pocket doors from the lounge through to the office (with sofa bed) so you can open the whole lot up for entertaining etc. if you do that just think about resale ie accessing bedroom from lounge unless you do convert the loft so it won't end up being a bedroom. I'd buy a unit to house the tv and books. Maybe think about a dining table that can double up as prep area. In any case I'd get one with a bench seat that slides under on the kitchen side to save space. I'm not a pro though so just my thoughts!...See MoreWhat to do with this master bedroom?
Comments (24)Lots of great ideas already. Another set of ideas to through into the pot. 1) Put the bed on the left wall with a tall bedhead, this will give the height that has been negated by the width of the window. 2) Feature wallpaper on the opposite wall to the bed. On the same wall is too much. Opposite will balance the look. 3) Roller blind inside the window recess and reverse rolled so that you don't see the roll itself. 4) Curtains filing the walls either side of the window-dress or functional, with a modern wave style heading. 5) Furniture-if possible don't have a wardrobe in this area. Have the two sets of drawers set together centralised opposite the foot of the bed, Possibly with a mirror above or a TV on or above the drawers. The standing mirror can stay where it is or to reflect the view and the light, swap it to the other corner and add a chair in the opposite corner to balance the look. I hope that you find that helpful....See MoreHow would you design this master bedroom space?
Comments (10)Hiya, Ok so I've converted your measurements into mm so these are equivalent to ft, in drawing we use mm. So I think you will need to close off two windows to the east side to get a decent size walk in wardrobe. I've tried to leverage the longest wall in the bedroom without losing too much floor space. I've added your bed with some bedside tables and as you can see you have plenty of space still around you. Keeping the south side patio doors as that will give you light throughout the day. In terms of your walk in wardrobe I played with different sizes and came up with 50-70-50mm dimensions, you could go bigger or smaller as you have plenty of room. Although I would allow 1metre gap between your bed and the wardrobes otherwise it could get a bit crammed. Also think it would be useful and nice to have a little seat to put on shoes etc. you could even add a seat on the opposite side if you wanted. Allowing to entrances to your walk in wardrobe allows light to flow from one side to the other and it doesn't block your patio doors either. I've added lots of dimensions hope this helps! Comments (3)Plants! Trailing plants, either fake or real and plenty of them. I think you could combine your two ideas - to use the space for storage and to build up the walls. My suggestion is to build up the walls to the ceiling but don't have them meeting the existing walls flush build up from on top of the en suite and set in a bit. So create a window ledge width on those two walls where you have the ensuite roof now. Use the ledge for plants or other decorative objects - you could even cover the new walls with a mirrored surface. I think this would minimise the potential overbearing quality of building straight up and using trailing plants would give visual interest part way down the wall and draw your eye back down into the room. You will have to work out how to get your items in/out of new cupboard! Maybe a nice looking ladder which could be feature itself?...See MoreClaire Herrington
