Need inspiration for high level garden/vic terrace extension
Comments (4)I've designed loads of steep gardens. They need careful consideration to work well. Measure the level change carefully (or get it professionally surveyed). They start planning it out on paper to make sure you can fit everything in. The danger is that you start by the house and create your largest seating/entertaining area here, then get to the top of the garden and end up with a steep bank that is not useful for anything. The general rule is that more small walls are better than one large, looming retaining wall. Invest in the garden structure (retaining walls) then make use of the levels. Create different rooms at different levels to give the garden some interest and ensure that you can use all the garden. Create an interesting journey around the garden and put a seating area in the sunniest spot. Soften walls by running steps parallel to the house rather than straight up the garden. Make use of the level changes with water features and cascading planting....See MoreEdwardian City Terrace Small Garden
Comments (24)Shed integrated into covered seating area, back of shed has door opening onto street/ lane. I am guessing that you are UK based, hence the covered seating area. You could put doors on the 'open area' and have it as a garden room too with a sofa and small stove?. Nice for those Sunday mornings with a hot cup of coffee and the Sunday papers. Curved path laid on nidagravel, edged in steel Turf lawn Plant herbs and veg instead of shrubs Two beds either side of decking area Replace fence and top with trellis for privacy...See Moreneed ideas for my terrace garden
Comments (5)A garden roof or protection of some kind will help you to be able to use the outdoor space throughout the year. In London any outdoor space is at a minimum and a premium so making sure it is usable is a great way of improving both the garden, and the living spaces inside. An automated lovure roof, like Umbris, will allow you to either have the louvre open for a sunny outdoor space, but when it is wet or raining the louvres can be closed to create a fully watertight patio roof to allow you to continue using the outdoor space throughout the seasons here in the UK. Below are some existing patio/terrace projects that might give you some ideas: If you have any questions please let me know Rebecca 01494 722 880 | www.umbris.uk | info@umbris.uk...See MoreIdeas for our mid terraced garden
Comments (9)Start with the basics of where the sun goes (Aspect) and how you'd like to use the space e.g dining table, loungers, space for kids or a grown up sanctuary and so on. Then look at practical considerations such as creating privacy/blocking views you don't want (for example the houses to the rear right), and pay attention to the boundaries - your walls and trellis look like they need a makeover - so remember to factor this into your budget (and I'd consider painting the 'man cave' :)If your existing patios at each end are staying as they are, you could consider making the middle section a mix of planting and paths (ditch the lawn idea altogether) with some seating mixed in (unless you lave kids that need to kick stuff about of course. Or pop in some raised beds to create some change of level interest. If you're not engaging a designer then definitely mark out your plot on graph paper and sketch out some ideas. By the way if you want fruit trees, think about espaliered trees etc which are great space savers - but you need to pick your sunniest spot....See MoreBlooming Planters Garden Design
