What do I do Will my kitchen be too long
Comments (2)How about have the central units/island going a bit longer to separate the kitchen and dining room a little more and don't put the extra cabinets on the right hand side wall which seem to invade into the sitting room area. In an open plan setting it's always good to maintain definition between the spaces. So keep your sitting room area clearly that & lengthen the central island in your kitchen. It'll look lovely...See MoreDo I paint the cabinets?
Comments (40)If you want to paint, paint. I think I'd agree with the people who suggest professional re spraying though unless you love diy and love the idea of being able to change the colour yourself relatively quickly. I recently painted a dresser (heavily stained and varnished wood, nowhere near as nice as yours) and a chest of drawers (bog standard orange pine) and unless you can take the wood right back it takes coats and COATS and a lot of patience to get a good finish. It is worth it though! Personally, I'd go for a greyish blue on the bottom half, White worktops, and paint the uppers the same white as the tiles (there's nothing intrinsically wrong with them, a classic choice that won't date). Put in a steel splashback behind the cooker (it should be possible to fit over tiles) to tone with your handles and a hard wearing natural fibre rug on the floor to break up the dark grey. A few wood accessories and the usual bits and pieces to finish....See Morehow do I make my kitchen cabinets look grey instead of blue?
Comments (8)Hi Patricia, I come across this problem a lot, I match the colour samples in the studio and they work perfectly. When we take them to site the lighting in the room totally changes the look of the colour pallets we chose. Lesson one for us, "always" put the colour samples in the room before agreeing them with the client. Lighting is the single most important factor with pastel colours. If its a north facing room colours will always look dull. Due to the position of the window the units under the window will always be in shadow which neutralises the blue tones and brings out the grey. Two ways of approaching this. 1 Re paint with a stronger blue to offset the neutralising effects of the lighting. 2 Change the lighting. Put an extension into the room and get a few different lights, LED warm white, Soft white, brilliant while etc. Look at the effects in the day and in the evening. When you find the light source that brings out the blue tones use that on all the lights in the room... With regards to colour on the walls, at the risk of being boring I always go white. When you put white up against a pastel colour the pastel shades really pop out. When you put another colour in it alters / distracts from the pastel. Hope that helps, Martin: www.angel-martin.com...See MoreWhat colour should I paint my cabinets?
Comments (31)I took your advice @alyson38 , @Fran and @Raumtastik and here is how it looks so far. I havent finished painting walls which will be SW Alabaster. I am currently trying to decide if I should do open shelving on either side of the kitchen window (I put some blue painter's tape where it would go) or some blinds (in natural wood looking woven linen, bamboo). It needs something there as it looks kinna blah....See Moreheaders13
