Ideas for kitchen/living/dining room please?

Hey Everyone

Reaching out to all kitchen planners/room designers/space planners!
We are in the middle of redesigning and decorating our entire house.
Our architect made the attached floor plans but I'm not sure if the space planning suits us and looking for ideas for our downstairs family kitchen room area.
We are a small family with a toddler and we will spend a lot of time in the kitchen with the tv any suggestions will be greatly appreciated at this stage?
(By the way the kitchen units have to be in that top left corner due to drainage pipes linked to the utility area)

Hi there!

This current room layout actually looks like the best use of space to maximise storage and your worktop space.

Have you considered an island instead of a peninsular worktop? The island could sit in the middle of the space at approximately 2m X 1.2m. This would be more of a feature and would create a more sociable space. Another thing to consider is curved worktops and a curved corner unit on the right hand side. This will create a better flow within the kitchen and the curved corners will be toddler friendly!

Thanks @Jonathan! The way you've set out the kitchen looks a lot better than we had thought about. We originally were thinking that we didn't want to lose the playroom, but moving the loo and utility to there could definitely be an option. Re the ensuite, we would use whichever room it went into as the master. We're not sure whether it would be easiest/cheapest to put it into bedroom 1 and use some of the massive cupboard space, or 2 and take some floorspace from the main bathroom.

Hi. Personally I'd put a slatted room divider (just the unit width) at the end of the sink run to allow light and zone the kitchen area slightly. (I will try and find a picture showing the same in a similar kitchen). Assuming the fridge isn't staying, I'd just buy a white one so it blends in, maybe like a retro style one as they look a bit prettier. I'd also opt for a round table. You could paint the wall (and rad) behind the table a darker/warmer colour and add art. Hang the light low over the table to zone it and maybe have a mirror or mirror tiles on the left wall. You could also consider acrylic chairs as they don't visually fill the space. I'd go for a wider curtain pole to maximise light coming in. Sofa, choose something on legs with narrow arms, being able to see the floor will make the room bigger and maximise seating. I also wouldn't choose anything dark as it could take over the room, just use dark/warm colours for cushions and throw if wanted. There are plug in wall lights around which won't take up any floor space. I don't know if you need storage but you should be able to fit a sideboard between the dining and living area? Re shopping suggestions, you don't have any ideabooks set up so could you give people an idea of styles and colours you like?

I like the room. Personally I would go for a dark colour on the tv wall so the tv etc blends in. Rather than buy a new rug I would spend the money on a cane and rattan chair, there are a few around ATM at really reasonable prices and you can pick up velvet curtains cheaply. I would also add another large plant. I couldn't get a wall colour similar to the one in the other pic but maybe look at something like this or just the cabinet colour. When budget allows I would add an arc lamp behind the sofa and a table lamp on the sideboard as this will add to a cosy feeling.

Ideas: On the second pic towards the kitchen I'd consider removing the breakfast bar completely and a table against the right hand wall. Bench on the wall side. somehow redefine the kitchen vs. front room so the front room space runs right up to the door - some colour in the alcove perhaps? Hang the door on the other side so it still opens into the room but covers up the kitchen when sitting in the lounge so you FEEL like your in the lounge and not the kitchen? What is the glass wardrobe/cabinet on the side of the kitchen - can that go - to open up space and a sideboard instead? or at least low level only. To my eye (and I dont like too much open plan) its like the open plan has got you already and the kitchen is invading the living space!
