Is this granite worktop mismatch acceptable?

We have just had our granite worktop fitted. They broke the uostand on delivery so came back to fit that the next week. The upstand just simply doesn't match the worktop. Am I making a fuss?

Comments (89)What an amazing forum this is. Do hope you have a clearer picture by now. I adore your splashback, it must not be relegated to a utility room. Buy more of the same for that! Perhaps you could frame an extra piece as art in another area. I've painted my kitchen cupboards in 'Hebridean Mist' which goes so well with the slate floor tiles, then a pink fridge freezer and pink edged worktop tiles tie in well. I like to add a little bit of matching colour from one room to another room, moving through the house like that. It givers synergy to all my rooms, none of which are the same colour, but all of which have a hint of another room. Anthology is a fabulous site to look at for lighting. Wayfair has a gorgeous orange glass globe light I want badly! I actually adore the combination of orange, shades of grey, white and black. Comments (6)Thanks for the replies. It is 30mm thick granite, I think the picture distorts the depth. I have spoken to the fitter this morning and he's agreed to fix it - narrowing the gap and darkening the filler. The slabs were from the same batch but there is a difference in the texture from one side to the other of each slab (we picked them in the warehouse). He should have laid the right hand one around the other way, but the grain would still have been at right angles across the seam. In the end that is in a less used corner of the kitchen and we are not so concerned about the lack of matching of the granite - mainly because I don't think there is a good solution....See MoreWorktops! We have a variety of hadle suppliers, but one of our favourite for "cup & knob" in a variety of lovely finishes is Crofts & Assinder - crofts.co.uk - a really great, British company with some lovely designs and finishes. Have a browse of the website and see if any are close to what you seek. If you give me an idea of which is the style you particularly like, happy to try and help. Comments (9)Is that the finished joint or has your fitter just left the worktops there out the way and he's going to come back to them? If it is the finished joint then its really bad and I'd sack him if thats the quality of his workmanship. That hasn't been cut with a router and jig, the worktop is all chipped, he hasn't used any colour matched glue, even with the worktop pattern its should still be a virtually invisible joint. If it has been joined together then unless its oversized you might be able to salvage it but I think it may have to be thrown away and new worktops purchased and fitted by a professional. You'd be able to see/feel if the worktop bolts had been used as there will be key slots routered into the underneath of the worktop, I used to fit one in the middle of the joint, one about 100mm to the back and another 100mm from the front, always 3 bolts on a 600 wide worktop. The colour sealent is also applied before the joint is put together as it makes a waterproof joint. Wiping a bit of colourfill over the top of this joint isn't going to fix that, it'll just fall out.
