flooring- same all over house or a mix?

Do you generally have same flooring throughout house or at least on same floor? I am considering restoring floorboards in my hall off which is kitchen ( new wood flooring), snug (possibly carpet) and living room ( same old wood flooring) - will it all look at mismatch? Am I better matching the hallway to the new floor in kitchen or old floor in living room?

I have put dark wood all through my house (except bathroom where I have large travertine tiles). I think it looks better as flows through the house. I'd go for wood all the time over carpets. If you wanted to break up the flooring you could put down rugs or a cow hide. This way you can update your look by changing these smaller items rather than pulling up carpet. Wood is also easier to keep clean!

Hi, I think this is a decision based upon how you like your house set up. I personally like a co-ordinated looks, in the sense that there's a basic layout in each room. If the rooms are small, id have yhe same floor through out but if they are larger may consider different flooring, personally speaking. Different flooring isnt bad but in too small spaces may just become overpowering or mix-match In our latest renovation, we kept the flooring the same in each rooms on the same floor but had a contrasting floor in the hallway which falls in the centre and so creates a nice divide. Thanks Angela, I'm aware of the mat and ply, I'm more after advice regarding expansion joints etc and how to make them not so obvious and where they are needed inside and out and what's required on the join between suspended and concrete? Sorry I should have been clearer. Thanks.

LVT in a kitchen is a really practical choice, and with the huge choice of designs available now, it can look great as well. Having said that, many of our customers opt for wood throughout the ground floor to give a feeling of flow and continuity, and as long as you're quick to wipe up any spills wood can also work brilliantly in the kitchen. Rugs are a great way to 'zone' off certain area's if you wish to break it up a bit. We have lots of engineered wood floors similar to the one in your link, and depending on where you live, may be able to help out (we cover much of Surrey, Hampshire and SW London).

We have had almost all our "mahogany" UPVC windows and doors replaced with Aluclad windows in RAL 7044. This is an on going project and we still have a couple of the old windows which will eventually be replaced. I have painted these in a colour matched paint by Valspar. I washed the frames, applied two coats of primer/ undercoat and two coats of exterior wood/metal paint. I have also painted the front door. I am very pleased with the results. I just need the UPVC windows and front door to last a year or two longer before I am able replace them. Might be worth a try.
