Do you like gold?
Comments (30)In the right setting, a one-off feature item in a gold colour, such as a marble fireplace looks stunning! Or for a more subtle look, why not have a bespoke made table top or vanity top in a pale marble with gold coloured veining such as the Calacatta Oro? Let us know what you think! Comments (63)HI Sarah I love what you have achieved. Many congrats for embracing what you have and creating something that totally enhances the placement of the fireplace. The space looks like it was made for the placement of that perfect chair and you've done a gorgeous job with your selection and placement of art . I am moving with considerable grief from my gorgeous arts and crafts bungalow to an early1970s small house. I have to say this style of architecture in NZ wasnt exactly a highlight. But I set myself a challange to embrace the architecture and look to enhance rather than fight it . That challenge shifted me off my despair track and now I am excited and hopeful and thinking about space and colour and the amazing light pouring in (a quality of houses of this time)..and textures . i feel so cteative in new and diffetent ways...and it's so exciting. seeing what you have achieved - it is very affirming for me I love what you have created....See MorePOLL: What do you put above your fireplace?
Comments (43)I am lucky enough to live in a flatshare that has a fireplace, even if it doesn't work! I just love the way it brings the room together and encourages snuggling up on the sofas with a nice cup of hot tea and a good book to read! There is something very homely about a fireplace and although our one is bare of any mantlepiece decorations, one of my favorite artworks claimed its spot above it almost as soon as I stepped foot in the house! The color of the marble and the undertones in the paintings couldn't have worked any better if I wanted them to and I feel like the dimensions are pretty well balanced! My flatmates certainly didn't oppose!...See MoreHelp have only £600 to do something with this fireplace.
Comments (9)It looks like the original brick around the sides of the opening, with a bread oven on the left. I would remove the concrete at the bottom, clean up the original bricks and make a feature of the bread oven as a little niche to display some nice ceramics. You could plaster above and around, then add a piece of slate for a hearth, and if you haven't got enough money to add a fire - real or gas/ electric, I'd put a temporary block on the chimney to stop draughts, and fill the fireplace insert with a plant, dried flowers, wood- even books stacked in there would look nice and purposeful until you can afford what you really want. You could add a floating shelf and a mirror above, too. If you only have a limited budget I think it's always best to wait until you can afford what you really want rather than compromise, and if you are not sure make it look tidy until you have decided....See Morenmlondon
