Using Architect’s Drawings
Comments (1)I use the blueprints to take the measurements from and then put them into my cad myself, even then i've never found enough measurements on the blueprint and use a scalerule and calculator to 'guesstimate' measurements to start with a design and then take my own physical measurements when building works is closer to completion....See More1960 house extension - please help review architect plan
Comments (7)Thank you all soo much for the feedback! I agree with regards to the many doors in the utility. The Architect proposed having a lean too to store the many pairs of running shoes my partner has, they get a bit smelly soo I don’t want them in the house at all. But I’m thinking we can put them in the garage which is what we do now and just skip the lean too. The dining area crittal doors can go as well. We currently have a gap and I wanted to keep it because the light flows through from the front to back of the house but I agree with Jonathan, we will have light in the back of the house from the skylight. I actually like the small bedroom, that’s our daughters room and we have family visiting all the time so I’d prefer to keep the small bedroom. Thank you all! This has given me confidence with regards to the plans!...See MoreArchitect Project Management Woes - Need Advice!
Comments (2)Hi Claudio. Often this can very much come down to the terms of the appointment you hold with your architect, and there should be clearly defined terms around exactly what their role is on the project, how their fee is to be calculated and how it is to be paid. It should also specify the way in which disputes such as this should be handled if you are not in agreement over the way things are being handled. Are they in a project managing role, a construction managment role, or a contract administrating role? These all place slightly different resposibilities on your architect and would determine to what degree they may or may not be responsible for delays in the work. I would advise you review your terms of appointment carefully and try to seek greater clarity on these matters first. I hope this is helpful....See MoreAm I expecting too much from my architect at this stage?
Comments (7)So what kind of remodel are we talking about? Is it something structural (removing load bearing walls)? What you probably need is a floor plan (existing, and 2 options as you mentioned). To discuss this with a builder whether this the new layouts are possible and then to confirm that with an structural engineer. When the works start the builder's work would need to be checked by the building control anyways and on completion you would get a certificate from the building control that all is safe and built up to the current building regulations. Basically what we always do, is to provide floor plans if none created by the client or architect, we calculate how much would that cost, we get it confirmed by the structural engineer and then can crack on with the project (and during the project building control checks whether all is great)...See MoreCroydon Window Company Ltd
