Which wood is this? How long will it last?

Would love this spa look but worried about wood rotting and not being able to maintain it. What is suggested? I've been told about wooden tiles but just not the same. Thanks

How do you finish the teak to make it last, as well as handle regular cleaning for an area like a shower? (Marine grade spar or something else?) Thinking about ensuring realistic expectations if there will be maintenance requirements over time and how to do that. Thanks!

A microwave oven is the device I'd find difficult to live without. Rechargeable batteries are so useful. LED lightbulbs. I can remember the days when the choice was between a 40W, 60W or 100W filament light bulb. Now there is so much choice and variety including ultra low energy bulbs like the G9 LED lightbulb of 1.5W I use in a table lamp (gives out the equivalent of 10W). @whirligig - I'm another fan of using a squeege in the shower. It's so quick and easy to keep the shower clean.

Tracey, those are encaustics which tend to be 18-20mm in depth, your wood will most likely be engineered ply if you have underfloor heating and depths vary 12mm upward. If one or the other substrate needs to be built up to accommodate the other that is possible. Be aware there will be some movement between the two, more so if you are using long boards, less with parquet, so consider how best to deal with any movement or expansion between the two. There are plenty of products available for this. Make sure your encaustics are sealed correctly. You could also find the cleaning regimen of the two finishes may be very different. Lithoflin for encaustics - and oil/wax for an oiled floor, that's not a great combination, so perhaps an easy maintenance wood might be better in the long run.

We have painted quite a few kitchens in the past to refresh them and have found that providing you use the correct paint, it isn't all that prone to scratching - especially if you have it spray painted which gives you a more even and finer finish.

I think you're right about the too much wood thing. Since you'll get a wooden table too. The school type stools look very industrial and not very inviting to me. I like the leather ones and would need to sit on the Bertoia ones to feel how comfortable they are. It also depends on which dining chairs you'll pick. Here are black rattan ones
