Front door lighting control

Hi,

I would like to put a wall light on the side of my front door like the one below and I'm looking for a way to control the light through a timer or a phone app. Would you know of any system that does such a thing ?

Hi. We have a similar light to the one in the image but it cannot be controlled by a switch. Ours uses a movement sensor only and cannot be changed to support a switch like several others out there so that would be the first thing to check. If you have a light then CAN be controlled by a switch, then you can use a switch from someone like lightwaveRF : https://www.lightwaverf.com/solution/smart-home/. I have some of these in my bedrooms and they can be controlled with a remote control as well as a smartphone app (requires a central internet device).

Hi, Love you window above the door. Makes me think contemporary modern lights may suit. I don't disagree with Mad about the house but think that they may be a little too big and you wouldn't really want a PIR (sensor) on both if any as this may pick up people passing. The choice of course is yours but if I may suggest a couple of styles from our range that may be worth a consideration. The first is a new style and great if you want to light outside your door but not the street. It's a great price and that's always a good thing especially when you need 2. I think you should stay within house style. Contemporary design may be too much. Color should match with your house facades and windows. Maybe something like this? Solid wooden door with glass in the middle. Graffiti grey color. Could be quite good match with any colours (specially with your bricks facade).

We had a very similar question the other day so may be worth trying to find it? It may help. I sourced a 1930's front door online. It is narrower than normal as I just couldn't find one locally. There are hundreds of doors online. Hardwood is the priciest. Mine was £189 but it is oak veneer over a pine core. As my door is in a porch it doesn't really get wet so I could get away with it. It was fitted by a local chippie and then I painted in F & B Cooks Blue. It does look good. I would research the right style door for the era of your house and keep to that style. My sister recently had a composite door fitted to her terraced house. It's black with chrome furniture and it is lovely. She paid about £600.

I would be inclined to have wall washing lights either side. Not sure about a canopy unless it is pitched like the existing porch roof with brick infill either side but otherwise kept open. Maybe stick with the lights first to see if that alone does the trick. Making the bed on the left the same shape as that on the right and repeating the planting would help to bring symmetry. I am not sure about the two tall Pom Pom shrubs in front of the windows. Sorry I cannot make out what they are. Could they be moved one at each corner of the house perhaps to make a full stop? Taking away some of the grass to extend the drive in front of the door would open up the entrance too. It is difficult to see on the photo but the grass seems to curve towards the door. It would be better if it followed the curve of the drive out and away from the door, basically an expansion of your step that seems to be a curve, and then return in front of the bed on the left in the photo. You could have a path here in front of the left bed in the same material as the drive. I know planting and reconfiguration of your drive wasn’t on your remit so I hope you don’t mind!
