Medallion patterned carpet in open plan lounge/diner? (8m x 5m, 1930s)
Comments (1)My preference would be for plain carpet. Then have it regularly cleaned. Because of pets my friend has her carpet cleaned 6 times a year and it still looks like new. (5years later)...See MoreReplacing missing fireplace tiles - 1930s - make a cast?

Comments (11)Thanks Sabrina and Sarah- I think that would look much better to square it off. But then may be disproportionate to the room. I think a builder could be a good idea. Comments (10)Thanks everyone! So helpful. Colourhappy and ED I hadn’t thought about painting the room white first but I think that’s a great idea, as it’s difficult to visualise what the room could look like while the current decor is here (esp the red ceiling)! I forgot to say that we are doing all the work ourselves (and are not DIY pros) to keep costs down, so unfortunately I think we’ll have to work around the fireplace. They are a bit marmite, aren’t they - I probably wouldn’t like it if it was dark brown. I also don’t like the pelmet CD, and if it’s not original I’m not interested in keeping it. Just need to figure out how to get it out without causing too much damage! Lovely colour scheme suggestions along the lines of what I was thinking. Thank you all again....See MoreUser
