They are practical in smaller spaces as they can provide greater floor space, and arguably inject an element of fun into a child's room with the raised and climbing aspect to them.

Great for space-saving, etc., but very difficult to change sheets - and an absolute nightmare if a child is sick!

Bunk beds are great for space saving, and provide an added element of fun for the little ones.

I had a TV in my bedroom for most of my adult life, because I was living in a house share or a studio. Whenever I've lived in my own home - which I have for the last fifteen years - and had a separate bedroom, I've not had a TV in the bedroom. I haven't had one for the last eight years and I would hate to have one again. It's sort of intrusive and it has a negative impact on my sleep. I have a radio next to my bed and will listen to that quietly because it can be soothing. I love watching TV, just not where I sleep.

An ensuite to the master bedroom is a great asset in a family home, reducing the morning stampede to the family bathroom. It also helps create that sense of luxury, adult space. A sanctuary away from the rest of the family.

Hello Bagnodesign, I rather think that designing with "trend" in mind would be fleeting and offer the idea of continual change. I rather prefer the idea of designing with longevity in mind.. It's less about being fashionable but more about what is right for the space and clients needs, likes, budget and so forth.. I think this is not a symbiotic relationship between shower and closet and poses no real advantage as you can easily create a luxurious bathroom or shower room with a nearby closet area that is completely separate and moisture free.. It is though, entirely a matter of personal taste, but perhaps all that is needed is a degree of further separation which houses the shower and thus the resulting moisture is contained.. : ))

Whether or not to use a valance is dependent on the style of bed and the room it's in. I'm about to make up gathered valances for a client in a colourful fabric by Voyage Decoration. It will soften the hard lines of the wood bed frame and add lots of colour to the single beds. The same fabric is being used for the gathered valance on the large angled bay window. This Edwardian room can take the large areas of pattern and will benefit from the frilliness. In another room, I've specified a plain valance in a dobby weave with pleats at the corners and in the middle of the long sides of the bed. The room is elegant but simple. In another, more contemporary home, I've used upholstered bedsteads so no valances were required. Incidently, in the USA what we refer to as a bed valances is known as a dust ruffle. Yes it catches the dust, but throwing the valance in a washing machine quickly solves that problem.

@jtemm completely agree on the difficulty of sheet changing - as someone who used to have a bunkbed and who changed their own sheets, doing so is not something I miss!

Brilliant for space saving and we've seen so many fantastic styles appearing lately - much less traditional and a lot more fun for kids. You can always make each bed the individual childs own taste through bedding choices, popping things on the walls and cushions & throws.
