Elevated house - How to improve facade of detached 70's house?
Comments (22)I rather like your facade. I would think twice about painting the brickwork, as this would be a maintenance headache, but cleaning it would brighten it up. Otherwise stucco and paint the front ( brickwork) only? i would clad your existing canopy in lead, but leep the existing shape. Is the tarmac yours? If you could change this to something lighter and softer, this would have a really big impact. Clad the stairs in slate or indian sandstone, get rid of the block screen and replace with glass, ( marine grade stainless steel fittings and door furniture) black iron railing for the steps....See MoreKerb appeal for 1960s/70s house?
Comments (5)Thank you, I'll definitely get painting, I'm googling about painting upvc as we speak, seems a bit confusing and not sure whether I'd be better off getting a professional- if they even exist! Maybe I'll just head to homebase tomorrow for some primer and paint and give some DIY a go! We have a bay tree in a more contemporary pot where the planter was now, but I was also thinking of getting some big timber planters for below the two front windows as a way of adding both timber and structured greenery to the Tarmac and brick combo of the front! I wish I could paint the Tarmac, but it's all uneven too so would probably show that up, I'd love to just tear it all up and replace with gravel but I might wish the Tarmac back once I have a pram or high heels!...See MoreRevamp a 60's bungalow exterior
Comments (17)Hello joolstc, I like the tiles! I think they just need a bit of attention perhaps they could be replaced or painted something like brick and tile paint and the colour they should be rather than anything else here. I definitely feel these have an impact on the style and I would not remove them unless you were to replace them as they are. They add texture to the house and are actually rather interesting with the cladding... What is not so attractive is the upvc. If you can't replace this aspect you can paint it! There are companies that supply a range of colours and you can breathe new life into this facade with a darker colour for example.. Add some plants and architectural foliage.. I can see a monkey puzzle or something equally interesting on that piece of grass... Some large pots either side of the front door and possibly something green in the windows either side of the two large opening windows.. Fiddle leaf figs would look wonderful... Consider something quite large for a room setting... Large vertical blinds would be great for the whole house and I'd definitely keep these.. Now I'm moving on to the idea of what's inside the house! : ))...See MoreUgly duckling 70s bungalow after!
