Elevated house - How to improve facade of detached 70's house?
Comments (22)I rather like your facade. I would think twice about painting the brickwork, as this would be a maintenance headache, but cleaning it would brighten it up. Otherwise stucco and paint the front ( brickwork) only? i would clad your existing canopy in lead, but leep the existing shape. Is the tarmac yours? If you could change this to something lighter and softer, this would have a really big impact. Clad the stairs in slate or indian sandstone, get rid of the block screen and replace with glass, ( marine grade stainless steel fittings and door furniture) black iron railing for the steps....See MoreRevamp a 60's bungalow exterior
Comments (17)Hello joolstc, I like the tiles! I think they just need a bit of attention perhaps they could be replaced or painted something like brick and tile paint and the colour they should be rather than anything else here. I definitely feel these have an impact on the style and I would not remove them unless you were to replace them as they are. They add texture to the house and are actually rather interesting with the cladding... What is not so attractive is the upvc. If you can't replace this aspect you can paint it! There are companies that supply a range of colours and you can breathe new life into this facade with a darker colour for example.. Add some plants and architectural foliage.. I can see a monkey puzzle or something equally interesting on that piece of grass... Some large pots either side of the front door and possibly something green in the windows either side of the two large opening windows.. Fiddle leaf figs would look wonderful... Consider something quite large for a room setting... Large vertical blinds would be great for the whole house and I'd definitely keep these.. Now I'm moving on to the idea of what's inside the house! : ))...See MoreHelp with 70s exterior - windows/porch?
Comments (8)Hm... it's a tricky one - I can't see that fancy windows or replacing the cladding would make it much better. I think the problem with the looks is more down to the shape of the dormers and the house in general + it's proportions rather than the materials used on the outside. The porch won't help in the looks department either. I think you're doing what you can - keeping it clean and tidy - and the grass looks very well maintained. I would just try to accept the outside and concentrate my efforts on making the interiors extra pretty....See MoreWelcome some advice on a 1960/70's bungalow renovation please
Comments (13)I would find a great builder with links with a structural engineer to help you see what might be possible and how much it would cost. When you know that you have sufficient funds to proceed you should then consider the creative side of things. You can explore layouts with a designer, concept planner or architect. The architect may be the most expensive option but you would have their technical expertise. A concept planner sells only design but you can explore many layouts at a lower price point than the architect. A designer can work in the same way as the concept planner but can also help with the finished look and procurement. When selecting which professional to work with you should think about whether you will need a project manager for the build and if you want the design professional to take on that role....See MoreJonathan
