Use Internal glass screen to brighten up room
Comments (21)Hi Sunny. If you need the dining table there I would definitely go for a banquet style seating area that can be pulled out when required but give enough space on a daily basis for passing sensibly. It seems like this space would really benefit from a 3D render package allowing you to visualise the space and how it will look when finished. You would then be able to try a few different options on the door front as well as the seating area. They don't only allow you to visualise the space saving you from making costly mistakes but you can then also use them when sourcing and with contractors to get your ideas and requirements across more clearly. I added a few images from some our recent 3D's to give you an idea of what you get (usually 5/7 images of each space). I look forward to hearing more on your new space. All the best, Gina...See MoreBrighten Up dark living room.
Comments (12)The sofa definitely looks like its blocking some light. Is it possible to change the layout so the storage is on the wall where you photo frames are as you walk in and the sofa moving to where the storage unit currently is, so the length of the room can be used as the living area? Also, the lack of natural light to bounce off the walls can make the light/neutral paint appear dull. These colours never work in a naturally dark room, they work best with natural light as, like you say, it can feel drab and dull. I'd suggest using a deeper wall colour to make the room feel cosier and homely, and use lighter and brighter coloured accessories and furniture to give the room a lift. The oak flooring will dramatically improve the room....See MoreBrightening a dark kitchen
Comments (3)I think you have just a little too much of a good thing going on with the dark colours. The floor isn't do you any favours as it competes with the wood on the cabinets, so I would lighten up the floor. I would make the area beyond the fridge in to a pantry, it's a great area. I would also consider, re-tiling using a lighter plain tile all over. I'd tone down the black as it's also, the darkest colour you can have and it too is adding to the lack of light. Consider maybe a recycler bin like this one in stainless steel instead of the two cylindrical black ones. We have one of these:- Simple Human Bin A pale gloss metro tile will bounce the light aroundIf you can change the work top for something a lot lighter and glossy too. That would help enormously. However, it's a big job and not for everyone. I honestly think the thing that would make the most difference is the floor. It's sucking the light out. Here's a kitchen like yours on pale cream gloss porcelain tile. Maybe take out the black bar stools and go for a a paler colour with a soft finish....See MoreHelp with brightening up my living room with accessories.
Comments (23)I think I would try tweaking the layout slightly. Try the sofa flat in the middle of that wall and paint the radiator in the wall colour. Angle one chair in the corner of the room facing the sofa, move the other along and put the smaller table under the other with the lamp on (Art would need to move slightly). I think a tall plant always adds life to a room (other side of sofa to what's shown). I'm not sure if I'm right in saying you don't like the wallpaper? If you don't you could look at Cole and son cow parsley, it comes in a warmish grey Which might be worth trying. If you like that one can look for cushions and a rug to complement. Would you consider a coffee table or larger footstool for the room? Something round could work. Is the inside of the fire just plastered?...See MoreJess w
