What are the work surfaces made of, it looks like marble?

I am currently looking at options for our kitchen. I know marble is very porous so what would be a good alternative but has the same look and finish?

Hello, these worktops are Carrara marble. If you're after something a little more hardwearing we would recommend a man-made material such as a quartz or a Silestone. These are available in a huge range of styles and colours and there are definitely some options which give you a very similar look to marble, but without the worry of marks and staining. Im a big fan of old and new. Apart from being an interior photographer im also a joiner. I hate seeing ol timber being burnt or thrown out. Theres more reclaimed timber in my store than new. If i can send a pic of this table made from partly roting oak and pine i will. I made oak legs and frame with pine top still with stains and lightly rubbed out Dinks. So yeah rustic or shabby....im in. Not sure on the rug!!

I agree with Emanuelle. I think wood brings warmth to schemes like this. I have also lived with wood worktops and love the fact they can be sanded and resealed. I have broken so many lovely places on my granite, but it does look nice too. I think your issue is with tone, not colour. The floor is tonally dark and almost everything else is light. As long as the worktop is in between tonally it should be down to your personal preference.

It looks so fancy, but cozy at the same time. I like this kind of design, which combines in it the modern elements, but also gives you that feeling of coziness, which should be a normal thing for your home. It reminds me a bit of Schloss Neuschwanstein, an amazing castle from Austria, and one of the best places which I have ever visited. People who worked on it are some real architectural geniuses. I could stare at it every day.

It's quite hard to tell if an island would fit widthways as it's hard to get a perspective where the supporting column is to the left of the kitchen unless you had a really short one. It also doesn't look as if one could run the other way as I'm not sure you could swing the table around and the benches in the living area appear to be built in so you may be limited on a reshuffle? I'm not sure if you're tiling behind the hob but wonder if you'd consider putting a runner in front of the oven? Lovely room btw

Can you also please tell me what the finish of the cabinets are please? I'm trying to get your look which I just LOVE (I am in Sydney so I can't get you to do my kitchen unfortunately). Are they semi gloss? What base paint do you use - acrylic or enamel. And are they hand painted with a brush or do you spray it on?? Any advice very much appreciated! There is soooo much detail in a kitchen I don't want to get it wrong!
