Need rug ideas
Comments (5)Yes low pile and patterned are best for hiding any marks. You can also get machine washable rugs. I bought a jute rug as I had heard they are good at disguising any marks and that is true, but mine is quite thick and holds on to so much dust and crumbs in all the crevices, I have to regularly put it on the washing line and beat it with a stick because hoovering just doesn't cut it....See MoreLiving room rug ideas
Comments (14)I too think some colour and texture. If a room feels alive then it has more depth to the light issue isn't such a big deal. I love the idea of texture and I would made it a more organic pattern as it seems you already have quite a lot of clean lines. What art are you putting on the walls ... art and rugs are a great first purchase re colours and then you can pick out colours from those for other items in the room. (I think cream and plain would make it all look very flat and a bit dull) If you found a rug that included a bit of purple that would be great but definitely some splashes of brighter colour would lift the place, especially if it is a basement flat. Think of blue skies, sunshine, red flowers etc Plants are also great for adding life, movement, texture and colour. Lots of plants classified as 'indoor' come from forest environments where there isn't lots of light....See MoreRug ideas - contrasting colour sofas
Comments (21)Thanks everyone for your ideas. That's great and really useful. Like the rug ishanson. It's looking like either a neutral (but contrasting against beige carpet) or a colour based rug would work equally well, depending on personal preference. We have double doors from the living room into our dining room which has black & white check curtains - photo shows the view through. I'm wondering whether a black and white/ivory rug would connect the rooms together from a design point of view? Saying that I think a rug that pulls the colours together would look good too....See MoreRug placement ideas
