What does rug color can I do for a white floor, black table, wood tv stand rugs .

The living room is waterfront view.

Hi There. do you have any pictures of the space?

It will have a lot to do with the style of the property and the furniture pieces as well as the other decorative elements with in the space.

how about a dark blue with some pictures of the sea .you can get some really good pictures from a really good place called the perfect art studio in Scotland.

It may just be the photograph but to me it looks as though the floor should have been prepared (sanded down more). It always pays to spend good time on the preparation. The photo also looks like the room might be in shade for some part of the day so might be a bit dark, plus your having a dark sofa by the sound of it. perhaps sand the floors and go for a light or clear coloured sealer not too shiney. Perhaps look out for a large rug as if the room hasn't been soundproofed it could be noisey for the people below and echoey for you. Don't rush and as someone else indicated don't have too much large furniture. Check if you can buy nice blinds off the shelf that would be the right size, you can then get them more reasonably than made to measure.

I have a two very similar rooms to this. In the living room I painted the coving, windows, door and skirts in Railings by farrow and ball (it's a very dark blue black). It looks bloody fabulous and because of the height and scale of the room it can really carry it off and looks very grand. I then wallpapered the entire room in the scion range by harlequin. Be bold, rooms like this can really take it. The bedroom which is identical I painted completely in RAilings (walls, coving, skirts, doors etc) and it looks awesome and every single person that sees it loves it although 99% of people wouldn't be brave enough to do it as it's very dark. Google abigail AHern as she loves using dark paint throughout her interiors and it really works, esp if you have a period property . I personally stay away from feature walls as I think they've had their day and look a bit 'changing rooms' circa 2002.... I've also put white wooden Venetian blinds (got them made to measure from ebay as were a lot cheaper) which also lifts both rooms. I also put a wood burner in the fireplace in the living room and have crucial trading dark grey carpets throughout. Good luck!

I like Carolina's suggestion, that way you have a choice of 'cosy' space but can easily swivel the chairs if you have more guests. I would rethink the lighting too (yes I'm biased!) but something less distracting will help give better balance to the room. "Feature walls" have had their day, but every room needs an anchor point, so something like a huge mirror or piece of artwork is lovely.

There aren’t many sofa shops left, but I recently went into Furniture Village and they had some nice stuff as did DFS, but some of it was awful so pick carefully. John Lewis have some nice stuff, but I just read they have temporarily closed all their stores........brands that seem to be good quality are G Plan and Parker Knoll. You need to google search your nearest stockist. There are a lot of newer companies like Sofology that seem to be popular but I’ve no experience of them. My sister bought her last sofa from Fishpools and she said they had lovely sofas.
