Is calacatta quartzite as soft as super white? Super white seems more like a marble to me

Calacatta Quartzite /cross-cut Bianco Macauba is very hard comparable to Super White / White Fantasy quartzite.

While both materials are considered quartzite they are on opposite ends of the hardness scale. The White Fantasy will perform more like a marble and the Calacatta Quartzite more like a granite.

I have been researching quartzite since I want the heat resistance of granite but like the look of quartzite. I recently read that all quartzite is the same hardness and anything softer is probably marble that was mislabeled?

Hi Jackie, Might be a little late to help but how is it getting on? There's a couple of things that can be done to test and eliminate the problems. Firstly to eliminate that it's water staining you should get a hair dryer and place it onto the stains, if the marks disappear or get better but come back within a couple of days then it's water staining (stains come back as only the water close to the surface has been dried out). Now if the hair dryer doesn't work and the stains remain there could be 2 other issues: Soap stains - We've got a process that seems to work incredibly well but will require some explanation so try out the hair dryer first and let me know what happens. Silicon bleed - If the underside of the worktop hasn't been sealed properly then the silicon that the fitter used when fitting the sink basin will now be bleeding into the stone - unfortunately this is unfixable. By the way, if you've having trouble in having something done about this and we can get to the bottom of the staining of the stone we're happy to provide you with statements and verification if you wish to pursue the issue further. You could add a number of things to help bring life to the room. You have chosen the perfect muted colour scheme that will complement lots of art work and colours. From your photos I would say you could add a large mirror above the fire place- you could go for something to complement the period of the property and fireplace or something slightly more industrial would work as it looks like you are already mixing contemporary and period with your choices of furniture and finishes. Art will be a huge help as well. Choose some large and smaller pieces to compliment the size of the room- you look like you enjoy your music and media (from the large tv and speakers) maybe some repro or original posters of favourite films? Or framed vinyl covers of you favourite albums. Pick things that you aesthetically connect with. Art is personal and should be something you enjoy every time you look at it, so pick pieces because you like them. It doesn’t need to be expensive. You could also think about a statement clock in the room as well. Lots of options I would say. Do not feel limited by a particular colour scheme with the art- go with things you enjoy looking at. For the sofa -with throws-mimic nature- stick to earthy tones grey browns you can pick up lots of cosy throws in these colours or animal Hyde type colours or actual Hyde’s...and once you have chosen your art- find cushions that are different sizes and textures (not leather) to help soften the look of the sofa and draw the eye away from its shape and on to the cushions! Or go with the nature theme and embrace the animal Hyde’s colours and it will all tie in with the leather. Of course these suggestions depend on personal preference but there are lots of ideas on houzz and pictures that can help with inspiration...hope my suggestions are of use!!

Hi. Yes you can mix patterns. There are lots of articles on houzz and online showing how. If you don't feel comfortable just add a solid colour cushion/s and a textured throw on that sofa though. Is yours the DFS sofa with stags?Mustard could work as the accent colour. Would you use the duck egg as your secondary colour? If so I'd go for a light mustard or if you want a stronger mustard then swap the duck egg for teal. I'd just pick up loads of cushions from a shop with a good refund policy and try them out! Maybe a flush fitted chandelier would work? BHS have a few on their website. You should leave a space of between 35-45cm between sofa and table. As it's not a passageway you should get away with 35 each side (try it with a cardboard box to check its comfortable for your legs). You could go for a slim rectangular footstool (to which you could add a tray and accessorise) or a small round or teardrop table. I think the mantle is fine as it goes with the reddy tones in the floor. You can have more than one mirror in the room. One over the sofa could work to make the room feel wider (something about 2/3 of the length of the sofa). A clock would work over the fire but do you have space for art elsewhere? I'd try rotating the mirror 90 degrees and hang it just a few inches over the chest. Good luck!

That is not true and unfortunately there is a lot of misinformation out there about quartzites vs marble. Some quartzites are naturally softer than others and may scratch more easily. When you say you want the heat resistance of granite what exactly are you looking to do? Although granite and other natural stones are resistant to heat they will still be damaged and potentially crack from heat exposure. We have seen it many times where customers have placed a hot pan on their granite countertop and it ended up cracking or at the very least left an ugly mark.
