Zenith Solid laminate worktops - any feedback?

Hi, we are installing a new kitchen and are interested in the Zenith solid laminate worktops. Has anyone had one installed?

We will need to join the worktop as the run is 4.5m, and we would need to join two pieces side by side for an island, is this possible and would it look ok?

The joints will not be invisible, but ,will be seamless, and will look great

Hi I recognise that plan! Good to see you on another advice forum. Duropal make I think around 6 of their colours of laminate worktop upto 1200mm in depth. Really it all depends on where you are getting your kitchen from and their suppliers. For example if we are getting laminate worktop from a UK supplier then we get it from a 'cut and edge' worktop supplier, not just a 'blank' board supplier. A cut and edge worktop supplier will supply laminate worktop to a plan we provide, they will pre cut the masons mitre joints and profile all the edges. This is so much better than the fitter cutting blanks and gluing on laminate edges. I know from previous discussions on the other forum you were looking at Schuller kitchens, I assume this is not your choice now as you would not have these problems you are talking about with the laminate worktop, because Schuller have a huge range of laminate worktops, with lots of edge options and in all sizes! Anyway, ask your kitchen man about getting a price for the laminate worktop from a cut and edge specialist. CK

Granite worktops all round, or a mix of granite and laminate?

Hello haylescakes, I think it just need a bit of care.. I would definitely not mix it.. Granite, like Marble or any other luxury stone, even woods do need some attention.. I have bamboo and that too requires a bit of effort.... Wiping down and a regular re oil.. However I think it is really really worth it. Also it does last and would definitely look all the better for the little bit of effort.. I also made several chopping boards with off cuts!! Gr8 way to use up the material and useful too! For colours I would look to finding something lighter than black.. I think you could really go for something amazing... Firstly though think of the colours in the kitchen... If it's a blank canvas, so to speak and any colour would work... Ie you have white worktops... Then really go for something striking... I have just found a few colours from a company online that are quite interesting..I'd say do some research into pricing and ask for samples.. Or visit a showroom to get an idea... Get as many samples as you need before deciding.. I think the more natural looking as possible... Some of them can look manufactured.. You could also add a small splash back panel.. Narrow is quite tasteful, the have a really chalky matt paint on the walls and matt paint for the cupboards..... Lastly think of finish.. squared off edges are in my eyes more tasteful.. but you can look at that and decide what you like the look of :)) Cosmic black... Siena BordeauxVerde MarinaceKinawa

Most worktop suppliers will provide customers with a free sample of worktop providing you don't ask for lots. You can get their information on their websites to request this. In our workshop we have samples of Axiom, Prima, Odyssey, Duropal, Egger and own brands. We are Staffordshire based. Out of all of the above Duropal and Egger are the most boring. There is nothing eye catching in any of their worktops. Prima and Axiom have added some new designs to their ranges but it all depends on whether you want to play safe or dare to be different.

Maybe an opportunity for a company such as Formica to offer something new?? I am sure there would be lots of interest from architects / interior designers / consumers for something a bit different but with a decent price tag too? Flooring brands like Forbo really showcase how their products can be made modern and contemporary, without having to necessarily mimic another type of finish (although they offer these too I think..?). Wallpaper designs are almost limitless, so why not start designing more creative laminate worktop designs? Printed surfaces are limitless when it comes to creative designs. They don’t have to be complex. Simple, commercially viable to produce, but filling this market gap.... If someone could start designing and producing something for next year I’d appreciate it lol!!!

Zenith worktops are very easy to be marked and stained, so be care full

have a look at encore and quartz worktop a lot more durable,

Thanks. I'd been told it was more durable than quartz - and a lot cheaper - so will take your comments on board

I have the zenith worktop in my kitchen for under one year and it is now showing signs of chipping around the edges. I have contacted Wickes where I bought it and they said that chipping is not covered in the guarantee. I am gutted. Wishes we did not buy product. We now have to find ways of repairing it.
