Looking for a colour other than anthracite grey for doors please
We are currently building an extension and have large 7.5m, 3 panel sliding doors being put in. I am stuck on the colour, I would like a lighter grey / fawn / beige colour for the frames but wondering if I am making a huge mistake if I choose a RAL colour or 7032 or 7044?
Currently the house is brick on the outside but eventually it will be rendered and off white in the next 5-10 years. I plan to keep the windows in the rest of the house white but the sliding doors and the gable windows in the extension a different colour. I prefer not to have anything too dark.
This is a model of the house, the red colour is supposed to brick.
What colour would you do?

6 years agoThe front of our house is Tyrolean render in a pale 'ish' cream and the side and rear elevations the original 1850 red brick. We too had the same problem in choosing a colour. We did however want all the windows, back door, garage door and conservatory colour bonded. We had to choose something that went with everything. We toyed with sage green and fawn. We ended up with the sage green, but I think the fawn worked very well.
You may change your mind in 5-10 years about the white windows, and i'm personally not a fan of white render / white windows.
The fawn works well with the red brick as it matches the render.
I've shown below our green window
Someone else in our road had the fawn and we felt that for us the green worked best with the whole house and garden. ( Gardening is my wife's passion so we have a lot of plants! ) This is the front of the house with the cream render in a before pic with the ugly old brown windows

Try if you can to get someone to do a mock up of the house with the different colours. There are even free sites available for you to do it yourself I believe.

Anthracite Grey or White Windows?! Please help!
Comments (9)I think grey would look fine. White would stand out and contrast too much with the roof tiles. If you notice, windows actually look dark from the outside when the lights are off anyway. Comments (8)Yes I've seen a number of postwar houses made over in the style you describe- cedar cladding, dark grey windows, usually some white rendering too. Door is generally replaced with a modern style in wood or dark grey. It works very well.. Comments (9)Yes, if you just wish to freshen up your windows and they are in good order, painting them makes good use of what you have. If the supplier is reputable with a good guarantee on the product you will be covered against warping and big draughts. I believe that slight ventilation is usually required to avoid condensation. Our timber windows are around 140 years old and still going strong with no warping. I do urge people to consider the health benefits for the family - clean air in your home. In the long run, with timber windows last at least 6 times the age the value for money of timber which outweighs the cost of painting within one lifetime alone. Also timber will not be adding to landfill or use as much energy to create. Finally the character and quality of finish is much different. Here is a comparison for you. 6 years agoHi I agree with the above RAL 7032 or 7044. A mid- light grey makes a change from the Antracite Grey.
