Painter needed for MDF bespoke wardrobes

Hello,

We've found a carpenter who we would like to build bespoke MDF wardrobes, however the company he uses have estimated £1800 to paint them (which takes us way over budget!). Our carpenter is more than willing to work with another trader.

Below is a rough design of what we'd like: a three door wardrobe on the left with shelves, rails and drawers; and a one door wardrobe on the right with shelves and a rail. The wardrobes will reach to just under our coving, so are about 3m in height. We'd like the doors to be painted in the same colour as the walls (Valspar paint).

Are there any professionals who operate in London (E3) and who would be able to share a quote for this job? We're hoping to get them made and installed in the first few weeks of June.

Can't you paint them yourself? It'll save you a few quid.

Not sure how much you want painted but I would just put a clear sealer on all the internal MDF this would be easy enough for you to do yourself I'm assuming, this would keep the cost down, then if you do not have the confidence to paint the exterior yourself just pay the painter for the exterior in the colour you require.

Hello fhparis I painted my 1980's fitted dark brown wardrobes a year ago. I was able to remove a shelf which i used to practice on and to get an idea of the finish i could achieve. Or indeed if i could do it. Your wardrobes are lighter in colour which is a plus. I mentioned the products i used in an earlier post. Dont underestimate how long it will take to do. I think i applied 3 undercoats and at least 3 top coats. It was well worth the effort and cost a fraction of buying new wardrobes. The pics show 2 sets of painted wardrobes. Funnily enough I was just thinking about kitchen artwork. Hi Maria. I have been going through the same search. We have an antique wardrobe that is not quite the right scale and storage efficiency and are looking for a replacement. So far, here is what I have found, hope it helps: Ikea wardrobes with Pax system for modern wardrobes are so good for storage efficiency. I agree with you completely on how they look the same. They are also not the cheapest when you customise with all the internal options. Ikea hacks are everywhere for ideas around kitchens and wardrobes. One is to spray the wardrobe (it will be a better finish but needs a professional or some equipment) to the colour you prefer, also choose different handles. If you like patterns or embellishments a stencil could work. I love Moroccan trellis designs and am thinking of adding this to a bookcase https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232647614238 my sister has recently bought the inner Ikea wardrobe drawers and had a carpenter build an MDF carcass with shaker style doors and brushed brass handles. Farrow and ball paint and it looks amazing! Bespoke and stylish and best of both worlds. eBay can be a good source of wardrobes that are not everyday high street bland but have a nod to design or traditional furniture. Fitted wardrobes are always a good option for optimal storage, however, it is difficult to see from your photos how much space you have for these with the bed in situ. If access to the wardrobes is an option, you could have drawers in the lower part and hinged doors in the top. A good joiner will be able to create a wardrobe around the sloping roof. Failing this, I think you need to get a wider freestanding wardrobe as this one is lost in the space. Or you could balance it out by putting a freestanding vintage clothes mannequin to the side to show case a nice outfit or your jewellery and scarfs. The other option is to have a chair next to the wardrobe to fill and balance the space. Hope that helps :-)

Should be easy enough to do if using the same paint as the wall. As mentioned before the inside should be clear coated or waxed and rubbed. For the outside just make sure that you mask all the edges around the openings properly. I would wax them too (the adjacent sides all around) once done with the inside just in case paint does leak in, then it won't be hard to wipe off. Be careful not to get wax on the outer side though.
