Filling a gap next to counter top sink

I've got an awkward gap in the corner behind my new counter top sink, it's bound to collect water and is going to nigh on impossible to clean.

I'm hoping to block the gap somehow, but now sure exactly how as it's a pretty big gap. Any helpful suggestions?

Countertop sinks are supposed to have some room around them. If you don't have any room perhaps this is not the right sink for the space you have. Would you be better off with an undercounted sink or a wall hung basin?

As above, the sink is supposed to look like that, the same with baths of that fashion. If you fill in the gap that side, it may look odd on the other side.

You really need a smaller basin so that the gap around it is larger to enable wipe ups.

The other choice would be to have a counter top sink with a back and a small side edge so that they fit in to the corner like this:-

It looks like it's next to a piece of MDF, so hopefully it's not fitted yet as that needs painting and sealing otherwise it will soak up the water and swell.

I'm also questioning the fitters ability to fi I. Line with the wall or pack out the wall where necessary?? I'm not sure how the units above line up and the previous comments are also helpful, as an alternative if you have any lengths of the same wood or can still get hold of a match, you could cut a piece to fit the gap like a wedge and it could be glue in place, make sure the top part isn't over glue so it doesn't squeeze out on top, someone who is handy and with a bit of patience should be able to do it easily enough, if it is cut to fit well it should just wedge in with a tap of a soft hammer and a block of wood, this should then just look like the wood is thicker at the end of the wall, it is a cheaper alternative and you could try it out first, if it doesn't work well or look good enough then you could go for the above suggested alternative of having the wall built out, I'm just not sure how that will look with above units, the best bet would be to have them taken down, have the wall done from worktop to ceiling and then refit the units after. If I was in this situation I would be seriously complaining to the company used for fitting and insist they sort it out, I would request their best fitter is sent and refuse to have the other fitter back under any circumstances as his work has been substandard. Most reputable companies will want to sort it out and fix the problem, if they are awkward you could threaten them with going to watchdog. I hope this was helpful. Kind regards Barbara

Hello Rikita, Have you considered leaving the sink where it is on the island and then having a bigger island that morphs into a dining area... There are many more interesting designs for islands that are much more than a box with a few cupboards.. The sink situation currently I feel you would find more useful for preparation/washing and in addition a bigger island with dining could be fantastic.. Having that run of four cabinetry along under the opposite window wall from the corner as mentioned already could be of further benefit. Or consider a double height larder cupboard.. for food storage. So here are a few ideas about the island morphing into dining table.. Either cantilever or split level in either linear or other arrangements.. Hopefully gives you an idea of how creative you can be : )) This one works with the architecture of the space it's in.. The narrow nature of the room suggests a linear configuration. So look spatially at the kitchen area but the idea can be applied in many ways to fit the room so going outwards widthways towards the hand drawn pictured dining table.. You can then have dining chairs or integrate a bar stool seating area.. So really making the most of the idea of an island.. With a meter clearance from cooking area there is a lot more space in the room that can be used..

Filling definitely, and with either kitchen trim or painted MDF. To match either ceiling or wall colour. We’ve used MDF painted in wall colour I’m attached photos. It looks like you’ll perhaps have a fridge/freezer in the tall units in which case you’ll need to consider ventilation (which would otherwise be provided by it simply being left open). To avoid an unsightly grill you can ask your fitter/builder to route out the MDF to create an area equivalent to that specified within the manufacturers instructions.

HI Sonia, Thanks So my sink will be an undermounted and the tap hole will be made in the worktop itself.... Standard worktop I assume is 600mm and undermount sink depth is 430mm which doesnt leave a huge amount at either end, so I'm unsure how this design has been achieved and if this is how it should ideally look?
