Hello Betty, thank you for your message. The living room is French Grey, and the dining room is Mid Lead - both by Little Greene.

The Persian rug is lovely. We have several (sitting room, study, hall, bedroom ..... they're a bit addictive), with fabric using a couple of the colours in each for stuff like cushions, curtains etc. with neutral walls. I agree with minnie about the patterns. To get the right colour combinations, at a reasonable price, you could find a company that does a range with the colour or colours you're looking for and then look for remnants on ebay, to get them at bargain prices. That's worked well for us. Hi Minnie, thanks for your reply. The paint brand is Johnstone's. My wife also thought Brilliant white might be too cold so we are now considering something with a little bit more warmth, possibly a more 'creamy' colour. The living room faces West, the dining room East - the living room gets the sun in the evening. The paneling would be going around the inside edge of the arch, basically an architrave that wraps the sides and the under edge. I have had it suggested to me that we paint the two window walls and the archway in blue as that will link the rooms together whilst ensuring that the colour is visible regardless of which room you are in or where you are sat? The boards will stay exposed though we are sanding them are treating with a light oak coloured varnish. Furniture wise, the sofa is an beige/mocha fleck colour, dining table is 'shabby chic' wooden top with white legs, Coffee table is wood topped with white legs.

I like the room. Personally I would go for a dark colour on the tv wall so the tv etc blends in. Rather than buy a new rug I would spend the money on a cane and rattan chair, there are a few around ATM at really reasonable prices and you can pick up velvet curtains cheaply. I would also add another large plant. I couldn't get a wall colour similar to the one in the other pic but maybe look at something like this or just the cabinet colour. When budget allows I would add an arc lamp behind the sofa and a table lamp on the sideboard as this will add to a cosy feeling.
