Save me from spoiling my new kitchen!
Comments (45)Hi really love your kitchen - lovely mix of cool, contemporary clean lines with the dash of colour: fantastic! I can understand your dilemma wrt the dining area. I'd tend to echo many of the previous comments - I would go for a smaller, simpler mirror with a plainer (probably white) frame and then I think there are a few options on table & chairs. White would work well - both for table and chairs - and then I'd jazz it up with some orange cushions and a nice runner or table mats. Really liked the white (Ikea?) chairs proposed by Joanna Zygo here: And the table works too. Alternatively, I like the grey/wood table you proposed (the second one), although I wonder if the style is a little "chunky" - thinner, simpler lines may work best with your very sleek units. While I recognise the "dangers" other have flagged wrt using too much white, I really think it would work here, and would really accentuate the inspired use of the orange highlights. As it currently stands, with the mirror and chrome table/chairs, I don't really get the full impact of those gorgeous orange lampshades - and they should be the stars of the show!...See MoreWhat would deter you from buying a house?
Comments (35)We bought our house 15 years ago with an open mind but wanting some minimum basics - white bathroom suite and separate loo, kitchen / diner or scope to have one, 4 bedrooms, large - preferably bay - window for Christmas tree and a cat-flap. We got a Victorian fixer-upper - 5 bedrooms, a space for a kitchen diner (had to move some plumbing and gas into it and convert old kitchen into utility), lovely 11ft high ceilings, gorgeous tall bay window, cat-flap into the utility, wood-burning stove - on the road parking (oops) and it was in local guide books and sometimes a walk-around tour! I walked into the place with an open mind and immediately loved the atmosphere, it felt like home. High ceilings and off the road parking would be priorities next-time though, we love our high ceilings and everyone who visits us does too....See MorePlease help me with colour scheme for my house
Comments (20)I was a die hard F&B fan - painted numerous houses solely in F&B for the finish etc. HOWEVER due to budget constraints, a current offer at Homebase on Dulux paint (inc. mix) , and the fact i'm painting an entire 3 storey house i experimented with colour matching F&B colours - specifically Cornforth White, Purebeck Stone, Ammonite and Pink Ground. Opting for the Endurance Matt and Flat Matt finishes by Dulux i was pleasantly surprised by the results. The colour match was pretty much spot on - i would caveat that the Dulux colour match won't produce matching finishes for all colours. For example Dulux couldn't match a flat eggshell in the Cornforth White so we bought Estate Eggshell from F&B and it goes perfectly well with the walls in the matched Dulux Endurance Matt. In the master bedroom we choose to use F&B Cornforth White and Pink Ground and estate emulsion and I felt it was a thinner paint than the Dulux! The added benefit of the Dulux colour match is that they can provide a number of different more durable finishes. Comments (7)I agree with comments above. Unless your sofa has sentimental or intrinsic value, I would buy new. If you have it re-upholstered you will have the cost of collection from you, the removal of all existing upholstery, removing staples/tacks and restuffing/shaping where necessary so quite a lot of man-hours before re-starting to start. We specialise in bespoke/one-off special individually designed/handmade sofas and upholstery, for the unusual or where quality is paramount. With the very best material and with amazing comfort superior to anything manufactured. But a large outlet or manufacturer will have much lower prices as they are manufactured and the fabrics will cost less due to the quantities ordered. You might find just what you want at a great price either on Houzz, Google or your local shops - now....See MoreJeannie Rowe
