Do you mean the mechanism that electronically opens the gate or the electronic part and the gates.

Houzz puts similar past dilemmas on the same screen to a current dilemma as a 'this is how we solved this one similar ' idea I guess ! If you add comment on it, it puts that old dilemma back in the current list ! It doesn't really matter - but that's why you sometimes see posts that are dated 2013 !! (Zombie threads !)

I moved the doorway to my bathroom and it was worth every penny if it means you can get a better arrangement, but exploring all the options first is best to avoid the hassle. Personally i would put the TV in the corner labelled 'wasted space', put the sofa where the bookcase is, put the armchairs in much the same place but perhaps more in a straight line with the fireplace and the coffee table in the middle. It looks like all your furniture hugs the walls, but it will make the room seem a lot less long and narrow if the flow was broken up a bit in the middle. Then I would move the book case over where the TV is, add a snuggler in the bay window and perhaps a sideboard (or guitars) to the right on the wall across from where the TV currently is. It would almost be like splitting the room in to two different spaces for two different purposes. The guitars and books near the window for light and relaxation and the furniture in a social setting without being center around the tv entirely but in a good view as well. My room is equally as awkward and I am still trying to figure it out so best of luck to you!

Green with envy that you already have a building in what looks like good condition. If it were mine it would be turned into a studio or office but could also be a gym/table tennis/games room/cinema/sauna and hot tub place to relax/play room for small children/snug for teenagers to hang out/workshop etc etc. Enlarge and double glaze the windows, insulate it, install a sedum lawn on the roof, improve the door or replace it with an opaque double glazed door shaped light source - the world is your oyster. And it will also appeal to future purchasers. More lawn = more lawn mowing. Paving = less environmentally friendly. You are so lucky to have it.

I think that by the end of this week we'll finally be completed !!!! We had the carpenters around yesterday to fit the skirting boards and put in a nice hardwood threshold and to fit door architraves etc. Sometime this week we should have the painters back to put a 3rd coat on the walls & ceiling, paint the skirtings & doors (F&B Worsted like the rest of the house) Then before the end of the week the builders are back just to finish the little things (the wire for the radiator needs to look better, either trunking or clipped neatly to the wall and painted) etc. We did the standard ceremonial trip to IKEA over the weekend and got the cabinets, blinds, shelves, picture frames etc (plus the obvious 150 tea-light candles that will never get used) It's within touching distance. I phoned the landscape people yesterday and given them 2 weeks notice to start their work as they need to hire a massive sump grinder as the one they have isn't big enough, and give them time to prep. now that the skip and builder have tidied everything up.
