Agree with jillyhilltop - looks great as it is. A pop of colour on the walls is all that's needed.

If the cabinets are real wood the possibility of a lime wash will mute the yellow/orange of the wood without having to change the worktops or floor.

I agree with jillyhilltop, the pictures look lovely. Bright accents and pops of colour or lush plants can really lift a room.

I have to say I also like the kitchen! Personally I'd paint the window frame grey. I'd change the floor to an engineered parquet (or luxury vinyl tile ) with grey and warm tones such as the first pic (2nd is just showing parquet in a galley kitchen!). I'd also remove that wall cabinet and just have shelves there. Herbs will look great and use different materials for accessories to add texture.

mauve? picking up the purples and greys from the limestone floor but use sparingly. Leave the cabinets. Maybe change the tiles to deeper backsplash in a bold colour. At least you can change the colours easily if you want to.

I really think that if you paint the cabinets with Moles Breath or Downpipe you would end up with a greyish kitchen.

There's this design "rule" which says that the perfect colour balance into a room would be 60/30/10 - 60% of a primary colour, 30% of a secondary colour and 10% of an accent colour. You already have grey and black - from the flooring and worktop, so why not paint the cabinets with something like "Oval Room Blue" or "Green Blue (both from Farrow & Ball). They both have a greyish background and it would give an accent to your kitchen.

I really think that this could add value to your project and lifestyle.

Are the walls painted or tiled between the cupboards? Can't really tell. You could add some colour by painting over but leave all the other stuff as is. Hang some rails across the glass window and hang pots of herbs. Get some small appliances, salt and pepper mills, baskets etc all in one or two accent colours for pops - say tiffany walls with lime accessories; or blues and orange; or purple and yellow etc

Beware of dark colours on a dark floor. We wanted a dark colour so chose a light floor - and it works, just. If I'm honest, I think it is a bit too dark, but it does look good and my wife loves it. It is F&B Mouse's Back. It also works because the kitchen is big and well lit - dark cabinets may make a galley kitchen feel a bit like a corridor i.e. oppressive. I quite like the light wood, but if painting, I'd go bright for your layout.

Thanks everybody for your comments. Actually the thing I really don't like about the kitchen is the handles. I think a finger-pull with a U-shape profile handle that sits over the top of each door and drawer front may be the answer. Is it possible to convert my existing doors to use profile handles? Do you know who could do it?

There are quite a few but the easiest option would be this. Easy to screw on without needing to cut down the drawer fronts. The thing is you would need to block the exsisting holes on the faces. But doable.

I painted my kitchen in down pipe and it looks fabulous! I love it. I think that colour would look great in your kitchen.

But just to add not a dark floor you need a contrast

Hi Faisal, I think the colour scheme is very elegant as is. A few artworks might do the trick in breaking the cream wall space though. We have a really varied collection of contemporary artworks. Maybe have a browse to see if there's anything that appeals?
